Hollywood casts China's Taobao in antipiracy effort

An affiliate of the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), the Motion Picture Association (MPA), has signed a pact with Chinese's largest e-commerce company Taobao to cut the sale of counterfeit items on its site.

Under the new agreement, the Chinese company and the MPA will work together to identify and take down listings on Taobao Marketplace that are believed to be counterfeit goods or that "infringe the copyrights of MPA member companies," Reuters reports. Members of the MPA include Sony Pictures Entertainment, Twentieth Century Fox, Warner Bros. Entertainment and Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.

iPhone 5 'already in production,' says Japan-based blog

Production of the next iPhone has already begun, a Japanese-language Apple blog claims.

And to back up its claim, the Macotakara blog cites listings for iPhone 5 cases on China's Alibaba.com.

The blog goes on to say that the back of the new iPhone has both glass and aluminum. "In the area where aluminum is not used, there is glass." (see image below).

This contrasts with previous reports that claim the next iPhone will have an all-aluminum back like the iPad.

By comparison, the iPhone 4S sports glass coverings on the front and back.

Microsoft and Alibaba launch Chinese search site

Microsoft and Chinese e-commerce company Alibaba Group are testing a new search service that could offer Chinese users an alternative to major player Baidu and struggling Google, according to the Associated Press.

A beta of the new Etao search site came online this past weekend teaming up Alibaba's e-commerce search engine with a Chinese-language edition of Microsoft's Bing search engine. The new site joins the search engines on Alibaba's current e-commerce sites Taobao.com and Alibaba.com and has been set up to drive people to the Alibaba.com online retail store, according to The Wall Street Journal.… Read more
