Quick-charge your Nissan Leaf with new $9,900 unit

Nissan announced it will begin taking preorders for a new quick-charging unit to be shipped beginning in January 2012. The DC quick charger is being launched with partner Sumitomo Corp. and will retail for $9,900.

In just 30 minutes, the charger, which operates on a 480v current, can bring a Nissan Leaf from "a fully depleted state to 80 percent charged," Nissan said in a press release.

Report: Panasonic, Sumitomo teaming on OLED TVs

Panasonic and Sumitomo Chemical are teaming up to develop TVs with OLED panels of 40 inches or larger by 2010, according to a report in the Nikkei Business Daily cited by Reuters. That would seem to indicate a more friendly embrace of OLED technology from Panasonic, which was touting a much more cautious approach to the burgeoning technology just a few months ago. (Sumitomo's been an OLED player since its 2007 acquisition of Cambridge Display Technology.)
