The 404 162: Where Michael Phelps can swim faster than we can run

On today's show: Heroic and controversial news from the 2008 Summer Olympics, Michael Phelps dominates the competition, Chinese gymnasts gettin' shady wit it, child abuse in the form of gymnastics training, the great bigfoot unveiling, Favre team traitor trading, Hawaii Five-0 remake, and submission from our 404 GoAnimate competition!

I know that we've talked almost nonstop about the Olympics this week, but we have to considering all the crazy controversy going on this year. I actually can't remember the last time I've heard so much news about the Olympics that didn't have to do directly … Read more

Because pets can get depressed too

Crave has visited the effects of sunlight on human behavior more than we care to remember, but it's all for a good cause. If a few colored lights can stave off violence in the workplace (namely ours), than we're all for it. One thing we'd never anticipated, however, is a product that can have similar results on non-human beings.

The "Fauna Sauna" (we're not making this up) uses solar-like radiant heat, sans ultra-violet rays, "to bring healing to your pet right in your home," according to InventorSpot. It's even available in … Read more

'SpaCapsule' lets you play sci-fi movie hero

Technology can be a wonderful thing, especially when it involves massage, music, and us in a supine position. And now it's never been easier to combine all three in one experience, through a modern wonder known as the "SpaCapsule"--a relaxation cocoon that resembles spaceship capsules seen in countless sci-fi movies ranging from Alien to 2001: A Space Odyssey. But it includes one feature that neither Ripley nor HAL had ever heard of: iPod compatibility. In addition to enjoying the automated bodywork and aromatherapy, you don't have to leave your precious media player behind because the … Read more

Personal sauna or MRI chamber?

As fond as we are of massage chairs--and even more of massage beds--we'd be somewhat reluctant to surrender our bodies to this personal sauna for fear that we'd be entering an MRI scan.

The "Solo System Sauna" uses infrared heat and electromagnetic waves that are concentrated on the parts of the body "where you need it most," according to its product literature. That sounds kind of frightening, especially when trapped in its "double dome" compartment that also resembles an iron lung.

On the other hand, maybe we're the ones … Read more

Ever wanted a combination shower-sauna?

Yeah, I thought so. This little appliance from DiVapor, featured on BornRich (naturally), will provide your bathing facilities with both an 8-jet steam shower and a personal sauna unit. Called the Utopia Steam Sauna, it'll only set you back $6,800.

The only beef I have with the design: it looks like you have to step out of the contraption entirely to go from the shower to the sauna or vice versa. But then again, I'm sure nobody who owns this thing will have much of a problem with freezing cold bathrooms to begin with. (Wirelessly controlled thermostats, … Read more
