Robbers turn noses up at Droids, only want iPhones

There might be a recession still lurking, but that doesn't mean robbers are going to steal just anything.

The whole point of stealing things is to get money for them. And, in New York, only certain smartphones appear to have any value.

The iPhone, for example, is coveted by certain nefarious actors. Droids and BlackBerrys, not quite so much.

DevilRobber Trojan now disguised as PixelMator

One of the latest trojan horse malware attempts on OS X is a bitcoin mining and data stealing bot called "DevilRobber" that uses the system's parallel processing capabilities of systems (the GPU and CPU) to run Bitcoin mining operations to rapidly generate Bitcoins (an experimental digital currency).

All malware is expected to be altered, refined, and otherwise updated, and recently security firm F-Secure has reported it found another variant of the DevilRobber Trojan roaming around pirated software networks.

Bank robber arrested after boasting of crime on MySpace

Here's a bizarre use of MySpace that I'm actually glad about.

According to a press release from the U.S. Department of Justice in Columbia, S.C., a man's message on his MySpace page helped authorities arrest him on bank robbery charges.

Joseph Wade Northington, 27, of Roanoke, Va., pleaded guilty Thursday in a Columbia, S.C., federal court to using a firearm during a violent crime.
