The original Pink Panther car and a replica of the "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" car will be featured in an online auction from from a U.K. auction house beginning at noon on Sept. 4, and running through 1 p.m Oct. 14.

The Panthermobile was created for "The Pink Panther Show," which ran from 1969 to 1976 on NBC.

It's challenging to differentiate between a habit and an addiction, but it's safe to say that an addiction is a behavioral pattern that escalates in frequency and advertises a lack of control. Smoking is one of the most pervasive examples of addiction in our society, but according to our first story of the day, text messaging may be the key to cessation!

According to new research at the University of Oregon, it may be possible to inhibit an individual's response to cravings brought on by addiction through reminders delivered via media like text messages.

"Research participants were prompted by eight text messages per day for three weeks to document their ongoing cravings, mood, and cigarette use" during the quitting process, the university said, and these messages may have helped some people curb their desire to smoke. Gary Ali has hand-built well over 8,000 Portable Pocket Amplifiers since 2004. He now sells the Version 2 model, the PA2V2, for $60, and that price includes shipping charges (he's in Toronto). I chatted with Ali by phone yesterday, and he seemed like a really nice guy.

Mercedes-Benz released new photos of the Cigarette Racing AMG boat. The 46-foot Rider is capable of reaching speeds in excess of 130 mph. A pair of twin-turbocharged, 552-cubic inch 1,350 horsepower Mercury Racing engines powers it.

The Rider is inspired by the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Super Sports Car. Engineers at both companies worked together to bring the SLS-inspired watercraft to reality.

Although the boat is inspired by the car, it is also an amazing-looking craft with hand-applied AMG Alubeam silver and AMG Designo Mystic White paint in a bold design that echoes the AMG logo.

Science-fiction movies show us many futuristic cars we wish we could drive. People still demand flying cars, promised to us decades ago by the Jetsons cartoon series. Science-fiction fan site IO9.com posted an article comparing driving as depicted in various movies and television series with today's reality.

The article covers all of our favorites: Batman, James Bond, Knight Rider, Doctor Who, and finds real-life equivalents. It even takes on the flying car and includes clips from Top Gear.

The X-51A WaveRider is one step closer to its inaugural test flight later this year, now that airmen at Edwards Air Force Base have successfully "mated" the scramjet-propelled vehicle to a B-52 Stratofortress.

In December, an Air Force Flight Test Center B-52 is scheduled to papoose the X-51A to 50,000 feet over the Pacific Ocean before cutting it loose. At that point, a solid rocket booster from an ATACMS missile will fire up, accelerating the X-51 to about Mach 4.5. The all-electric Zero DS motorcycle from start-up Zero Motorcycles became available in the U.S. on Thursday.

For $9,950, U.S. drivers can ride both on and off-road free from carbon guilt.

In addition to running on a power pack of lithium-ion batteries, the all-electric motorcycle is made of 100 percent recyclable materials. The Santa Cruz, Calif.-based motorcycle manufacturer claims all the bike's materials are nontoxic and that even the battery pack is "landfill-approved."
