Bad Piggies 1.0.0 Review

Another amazing game from the makers of the very popular game series Angry Birds, Bad Piggies is the same story viewed from the perspective of the ingenious little green pigs, originally featured in Angry Birds. However, this game takes a very different approach to the experience by immersing the player in an interactive sandbox. Players must use creativity and engineering to get through each quest.

For those without a high-speed Internet connection, Bad Piggies may take a while to download. It is 42MB, but the size is due to the game's incredible details and physics engine. The game opens … Read more

Bad Piggies is goofy and addictive

The creators of Angry Birds are back with a game that centers on pigs this time around, and bad ones at that. Bad Piggies sounds goofy in its description, but trust us, it has the makings of a very addictive game -- as long as you keep the sound on mute.

Bad Piggies' main menu includes buttons to share your results on various social media channels, and an options menu for controlling the sound and accessing the App Store. We tapped the Play button and were taken to a screen that contained four scenes to choose from: Ground Hog Day, … Read more

Angry Birds app infiltrated by Bad Piggies

Watch out Angry Birds. Those Bad Piggies are hogging in on your territory.

Yesterday's update to the one and only original Angry Birds game for iOS and Android finds the piggies snorting it up in 15 of their own "pig-themed" levels.

Borrowing from the Bad Piggies game released a couple of weeks ago, the new levels prompt you to build various contraptions to coax the pigs along from start to finish.

The game's Surf and Turf level has also been spruced up with 15 new levels, each with the usual arsenal of sling scopes, king slings, … Read more

Why Apple dumped Google Maps

Thursday's CNET Update hit a fork in the road:

You've seen the mockery over Apple's new map app and how it will sometimes give users wrong information. But a report from All Things Digital is shedding some light on why Apple cut off Google, even if Apple's maps were not perfected. In short, it comes down to voice navigation, which has been included on Android phones for years. Apple wanted it, and Google wanted to keep that perk for Android. Google may have been open to negotiating (it wanted Google branding on the app) but Apple … Read more

Angry Birds sequel Bad Piggies hogs top spot among iOS apps

Those Bad Piggies may not be so bad if they can soar to the top of the iOS charts in just a few hours.

Released from its pen earlier today for iOS and Android, the Angry Birds sequel is the most-downloaded paid app among both iPhone and iPad users.

A brand-new game rarely hits the top spot in Apple's App Store so quickly. But being the latest installment in the hot Angry Birds lineup gives Bad Piggies a strong leg (or hoof) up. Game maker Rovio has gotten a lot of mileage out of Angry Birds, but the company … Read more

Apple user data uncovered by hackers

Tuesday's tech news roundup is cracking the code:

Members of the hacker activist movement AntiSec claim they accessed an FBI agent's laptop and found the unique device identification numbers for 12 million Apple iOS devices. The group posted one million of these ID numbers online. Hackers criticized the data that these UUID numbers can reveal about a user, and called into question what the data could be used for.

These UUIDs are not the same as Apple ID email and passwords used to log into iTunes accounts. Rather, these are unique serial numbers for every Apple device, and … Read more

Meet Kermit the Frog, gadget geek

When you get a chance to interview Kermit the Frog, you don't pass it up.

Kermit has been the most famous frog in the world for decades. And with the success of his new film, "The Muppets," which has already earned $56 million domestically, he's been making the rounds, sharing his thoughts on everything from meeting presidents to why he never seems to age to what it's like to work alongside his girlfriend, Miss Piggy.

But this is CNET. We wanted Kermit to talk about iPhones. And Twitter. Technology, in other words. We couldn't get the frog who has sung so eloquently about rainbows to tell us how he feels about the most famous double rainbow in the world, or about how often Miss Piggy texts him, but he did dish about his preference for Apple's devices. … Read more

Angry Birds' Bad Piggy Bank affords in-game buys

Angry Birds for Android will soon let you pay to get rid of ads, with the currently undisclosed fee charged directly to your phone bill rather than via Google Checkout. The hugely popular game's Finnish developer, Rovio, wants other Android app makers to use its new system too.

Bad Piggy Bank--which will launch in Finland first, and globally next year--will also let players download the Mighty Eagle cheat. As TechCrunch reports, Rovio's Peter Vesterbacka said the company was "not picking on Android particularly, but I think that the payment method up to now has been less than … Read more

This little piggy went into your ear

If there's one piece of advice that we dish out regularly, it's to always ditch the stock earbuds that come with your MP3 player and get a better pair. Featuring this product may seem counter to that because there's very little likelihood it will sound much better than the earphones that come with your portable player. But truth be told, the novelty factor of these Buta Earphones from Japanese site Green House is too much to resist.

Available in three colors (pink, black, and white), one earbud has the front half of the pig, while the other … Read more

UFO speakers land in U.K.

As they continue to morph into music devices, phone makers have made significant strides in portable speakers over the last year. But all too often they're still too big to carry around easily, with even the most compact models often larger than the phone itself. At the other end of the scale, some of the smallest versions look like some kind of makeshift project from a 7th grade electronics class.

Miidio tries to address both issues on the U.K. market with its line of ultra-compact speakers, which have a standard 3.5-millimeter plug so they can be used … Read more
