Update on PC Gaming Alliance initiatives

Gaming site the Big Download posted an interview with the PC Gaming Alliance President, Randy Stude, last night that gives an update on the PCGA's progress on a variety of issues facing PC gaming we discussed in our own interview last June.

For one, it seems the PCGA is getting closer to providing guidance on hardware specifications, although he made clear it's not working on a specific standard. Q&A At the Game Developers Conference in February, Intel, Microsoft, Nvidia, and other companies that sell PC gaming hardware and software announced the creation of the PC Gaming Alliance, an organization whose specific purpose is defending the PC as a gaming platform.

Its goals include defining an accurate scope of the PC gaming market and establishing a hardware baseline for developers to use as a reference point. PC Gaming Alliance tries to save PC gaming where Microsoft failed

Gamespot reported from the 2008 Game Developer's Conference that Intel, AMD, Nvidia, Microsoft, and a collection of other PC hardware and software vendors have joined forces in a newly formed nonprofit organization dubbed the PC Gaming Alliance. Its goal, according to the press release, is "advancing the PC as a worldwide gaming platform." If this sounds familiar, Microsoft used similar language in its Games for Windows marketing campaign that saw a major relaunch last year. Let's hope the PCGA takes its mission more seriously.
