NetSuite floats out SuiteCloud

NetSuite on Thursday unveiled its SuiteCloud Ecosystem, expanding its on-demand enterprise software service to include cloud computing.

The company, which hosts enterprise software on demand, is branching out to allow customers the ability to push their core operations into the clouds.

As part of its SuiteCloud Ecosystem, NetSuite is launching a developer program, SuiteCloud Developer Network, and an online cloud-computing application marketplace, SuiteApp.com.

The SuiteCloud platform will be built on core NetSuite enterprise resource management (ERP) software, as well as its customer relationship management (CRM) and e-commerce offerings.

NetSuite bucks economic trends with profitable quarter

Business management on-demand software provider NetSuite on Tuesday reported that its fourth-quarter revenue rose 30 percent from a year ago and its net loss shrank.

Excluding stock-related and other expenses, the company would have posted a profit of 1 cent per share for the quarter--its first profitable quarter on that basis, the San Mateo, Calif.-based company said in a statement.

NetSuite boasts of Google Chrome support

Google Chrome will work with NetSuite's online accounting and customer-relations software, the company said Friday.

Elements of the company's online tools, including editing text and drag-and-drop operations, benefit from Chrome's fast JavaScript, NetSuite said. However, Google's assertions of compatibility with Apple Safari notwithstanding, NetSuite said it will gradually extend support to its customers, finishing by mid-October.

The company boasted it's the first online business application to support Chrome, just as it was the first with native support for the iPhone's version of Safari and the new Firefox 3.0.

NetSuite, Zoho post app suite gains

Two on-demand business software firms reported accelerating adoption of their suites today.

NetSuite reported second-quarter 2008 revenue of $36.6 million, up 43 percent from the same period in 2007. Net loss per GAAP was down to $3.1 million in the quarter, compared with $9.6 million in Q2 2007.

The company also announced new midmarket and enterprise customers for its ERP and CRM suites, which are delivered as Web applications. This weekend I attended a book party in San Francisco for Jonathan Zittrain. His book, The Future of the Internet--And How to Stop It, was recently published and received good reviews. NetSuite posts smaller quarterly loss

NetSuite, the on-demand business software provider, on Thursday reported a boost in revenue and a smaller quarterly loss.

The company posted a first-quarter loss of $2 million, or 3 cents per share, compared with a loss of $9.3 million, or $1.24, in the same quarter last year. Revenue rose to $34.1 million from $23.2 million.

NetSuite said its net loss for the period, excluding one-time charges, was a penny a share. Analysts have been estimating NetSuite would post a loss of 2 cents a share for the quarter, and $33.5 million in revenue.

Bungee Labs is extending the hosting options for its Web application development environment, Bungee Connect. Today, developers using the Bungee Connect development environment can host their applications on Bungee's multitenant grid in the U.S. and Europe or on Amazon EC2. Beginning in July in public beta, organizations will be able to deploy Bungee Connect applications via the new Bungee Application Server on their own hosting infrastructure.

NetSuite finds a sweet spot with OneWorld

NetSuite has found a sweet spot for its on-demand business management software. Today, the company introduced OneWorld, which adds real-time management and consolidation capabilities for companies that are multinational or have multiple subsidiaries.

Targeting midsize companies, OneWorld is the biggest architectural change to NetSuite since its inception, according to company CEO Zach Nelson. "Within a single instance, you can effectively run multiple companies in real time. NetSuite tackles Salesforce.com with own development platform

NetSuite on Thursday is expected to fill out its online development platform, part of its strategy to deliver industry-specific applications through partners.

The newly named NetSuite Business Operating System (NS-BOS) adds to the company's existing hosted development platform, notably with an integrated code debugger called SuiteScript D-Bug, which will start to be available next month.

With the NS-BOS, NetSuite is targeting independent software vendors (ISVs) with expertise in specific industries that are looking to create a software-as-a-service offering. In particular, the company is trying to enlist client/server application providers that need to create a hosted offering.

NetSuite IPO debut takes a rocket ride

NetSuite's IPO debut launched like a rocket Thursday morning--soaring skyward, only to plunge back to earth.

Shares of the highly anticipated IPO, which priced at $26 a share Wednesday, shot as high as $30 a share in early morning trading, only to fall below sea level to $23.86 a share. The shares have since stabilized a bit, trading slightly above its IPO price.
