Neptune Pine smartwatch excites, but only in theory

Run a Google search for smartwatch, and you'll find quite a few choices out there. But many of these watches fall flat of actually delivering what a real geek wants: a timepiece with sexy specifications, a cool (and actually usable) interface, and total independence from a smartphone.

Neptune Computer -- a startup based in Montreal -- is looking to deliver a smartwatch called Pine that could fulfill those geeky needs. Before you get too excited, though, note that some hurdles stand in the way.

Buzz Out Loud 1508: Google + is now 10 million strong (Podcast)

Google + is making some changes, but hopefully it's only going to keep the G+ train going: estimates have it at 10 million users and on track for 20 million by this weekend. Yeah, no, really. Plus, Netflix makes a change that makes us sing and pushes you toward either DVDs or streaming, but probably not both. Plus, happy anniversary, Neptune!

ScatterTunes sells digital albums with a visual twist

ScatterTunes is a Texas start-up focused on making the experience of digital music more visual and interactive. In September, the company introduced its V-Album format, which includes audio tracks in unprotected MP3 format, plus material such as lyrics, photos, videos, and links to merchandise and (where applicable) concert tickets. Although the audio portion of the download works with any software, and can be exported to any MP3 player, the video part requires downloading and installing the free ScatterTunes Player.
