Samsung: Apple's lawyers should be tossed

The legal fracas between gadget makers Apple and Samsung has reached a new level, with Samsung now vying to get some of Apple's legal team members kicked off the case.

FOSS Patents picked up on a 20-page motion filed by Samsung with the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California yesterday, asking to have some of Apple's lawyers from law firm Bridges & Mavrakakis taken off the case. In the filing, Samsung alleges that these lawyers have a conflict of interest under the California Rule of Professional Conduct for having previously worked on Samsung's … Read more

Weekend assignment: Show us your wires

Beloved CNET to the Rescue listeners:

Next week's show is all about wire management, so we thought it would be fun to highlight some of the beautiful (and not so beautiful) wire management techniques you're using in your home and/or office. Wireless key finder locates your keys and more

I never understood the logic of "ordered chaos." Either you are messy or you aren't. So I rarely sympathize with anyone who is trying to look for his or her phone or car keys under a pile of stuff.

Fortunately for this group of people, the Find It All Key Finder may be the key (literally) to their next search mission. Each $40 set comes with a pair of keychains and a card with wireless receiving and transmitting capabilities. All you need to do is attach them to items that you frequently use or have a tendency … Read more

Hey slob, profit from your pigsty

Does your desk look like a FEMA-level disaster area? Ignore the dispirited sidelong glances of your more organized co-workers. That tower of 10-year-old notepads spilling over into the next cube might actually be the downpayment on your house.

MyFax, a provider of Internet fax services, has launched its MyFax Messy Office Contest, an online search for the office or cubicle most likely to make the average neat freak go into convulsions. The company is offering a $10,000 grand prize to the winner, along with additional prizes (like free MyFax accounts) totaling another $5,000.

So in a culture that … Read more

Software without community: Does the crowd or the player make the game?

Watch this wonder goal from Argentina's Lionel Messi:

Now tell me whether the game would be the same without that announcer. Without the crowd?

Exactly. You think I'm joking, but if you've ever watched one of those games where the stadium was empty (because the crowd had gotten out of hand at a previous match), you'll know that it's a very flat experience. Boring, almost regardless of what's happening on the field.

A bit like software without community. A bit.
