Three weeks after teasing us with a promo of its first Android handset, we finally get pricing and a release date for the Sanyo Zio. The Zio, which will ship by August 21, is $229 if you place a preorder on Cricket's Web site. The full price without the Web discount is an additional $20, but keep in mind that Cricket won't make you sign a contract.
Kyocera raised its profile earlier this year when it announced its first Android handset at CTIA. At the time we knew that Cricket would offer the Zio M6000 (pronounced Zeye-oh), but it wasn't until this week that the carrier offered the first signs of availability.
We still don't know a price, but you can sign up on Cricket's Web site to be notified when the smartphone goes on sale. You'll also get a coupon for free overnight shipping.

LAS VEGAS--Over the last few years, Kyocera has been a reliable presence at CTIA. It's had one of the best-looking booths on the show floor, it's always introduced phones, and those new handsets have stuck to the basics. This year, however, Kyocera partly broke with tradition. It still had a spiffy booth, but its new phone, the Zio M600, is hardly a low-end device.

LAS VEGAS--Kyocera today made good on its promise to launch an Android smartphone in 2010. The Zio M6000 is the company's first handset with the Google Android operating system and is the first U.S. smartphone we've seen at CTIA since i first attended the show in 2004.
