The re-branded "LG15" production company Eqal, helmed by Greg Goodfried and Miles Beckett, unveiled LG15: The Resistance, a spin-off of the original Lonelygirl15 suspense-drama. It's their third series, after Lonelygirl15 and British derivative KateModern, which found a home on social network Bebo. The Resistance will have its "home" and surrounding community discussions at LG15.com, but it will be syndicated on MySpaceTV, Veoh, Hulu, … Read more
Remember the Web series Lonelygirl15? Protagonist "Bree" might have gotten killed off, but the team that created her wants to go places.
On Thursday, Lonelygirl15 brains Miles Beckett and Greg Goodfried--who also created a British spin-off called KateModern--announced the launch of their new "social entertainment" production company, Eqal. Previously, their company's name had been a bit more of a mouthful: LG15 Studios/Telegraph Ave. Productions.
Along with its debut, Eqal has announced $5 million in Series A venture funding in a round led by Spark Capital, with contributions from notable investors, including Silicon Valley veteran … Read more
"Bree" is no more.
In the "season finale" of the Web series "Lonelygirl15," which was broadcast in a well-publicized event on Friday on the MySpaceTV platform, the cute teenage protagonist met her death at the hands of a religious cult's sacrifice. A dramatic, soap-opera worthy exit indeed--especially considering that Lonelygirl15's videos were mundane enough at first to fool scores of viewers into thinking they were the real Webcam diaries of a flesh-and-blood teenager.
My, my, Lonelygirl15 sure has come a long way. Not so long ago, everyone thought the too-cute videoblogger was, well, a too-cute videoblogger. Then some online video fans with a shocking amount of time on their hands deduced that she was likely an actress in a staged series of video episodes. (They were right.) Now, leading lady "Bree" (played by Jessica Rose) has gone all professional on us--the new MySpaceTV video portal will be hosting Lonelygirl15's season finale.
The popular "LonelyGirl15" Web serial is breaking new ground in ongoing efforts to monetize video content by signing a unique deal with the Neutrogena skin care company. In a step beyond product placement, Lonelygirl15 episodes this summer will actually feature a branded character--a Neutrogena scientist, according to the Associated Press and other sources.
Some bloggers are impressed by the partnership, which they view as a creative way to pay the bills and help keep the show alive.
Others, however, view it as the ultimate sellout. But the show is likely to overcome such Web community disappointment. It started … Read more
It seems like outed Lonelygirl15 actress Jessica Rose's 15 minutes of fame aren't quite up yet. The fictional YouTube video blog series has a United Kingdom-based spin-off coming up, and Rose has a small role in an upcoming Lindsay Lohan movie.
It's also been recently announced that production has recently wrapped on Rose's "first major theatrical role," in a movie called Perfect Sport that's slated to be released (in one capacity or another) this fall. It doesn't look particularly "major," though; it's created by a year-old production company called … Read more
YouTube has launched the first ever YouTube Awards with 70 videos in seven categories. This week viewers can vote to pick their favorites of 2006. It's kind of like the Oscars, but for user-generated video clips such as Lonelygirl15 and Ask a Ninja. As of right now, there's nothing on the awards page but a bunch of comments from confused users who have made their way to the site to find nothing to vote on. Digging deeper, clicking on playlist shows a full listing of clips. We're assuming there will be a voting system similar to the … Read more
You might have thought her 15 minutes of fame were over, but Jessica Rose, the actress who fooled millions of YouTube users with the staged "Lonelygirl15" video blog, is hoping to prove the world wrong. She's got a small role opposite Lindsay Lohan--yes, the fresh-out-of-rehab tabloid target--in the Mean Girls actress' latest film, I Know Who Killed Me. It appears that Ms. Lohan plays a young woman who is rescued after being tortured by a serial killer, but it's unclear what Ms. Rose's role is.
(Maybe she's the serial killer?)
And if you don'… Read more
