Get rid of your ex on Valentine's, from Facebook at least

An ex is like a scar you once got after a seventh Cabernet in a bar with 12 steps.

Some days, you look at it and are proud. At other times, you wonder how you could have done it to yourself.

The lies, the hurt, the occasional odor of indifference and the underarm spray that was at least two years old -- they all serve as jogs and jags to the memory.

Sadly, many people still hold material relics of disappointed love all over the most important part of their lives -- yes, their Facebook timelines.

Battlefield 4 set to launch in late 2013

Already? A representative of the Battlefield franchise announced today that gamers should expect a Battlefield 4 beta around fall 2013. The news comes several weeks after EA quietly noted that if you preorder Medal of Honor: Warfighter, you get a free beta invite to Battlefield 4.

"We are committed to providing an excellent Battlefield 3 experience well into the future, past the releases of Aftermath, End Game, and Battlefield 4," noted a DICE representative, hoping to calm speculation regarding such an early announcement. "DICE is continuing its work on Battlefield 3 alongside Battlefield 4." … Read more

Contract Killer: Zombies

A spin-off of the original Contract Killer hit, Contract Killer: Zombies ups the ante by dropping you smack dab in the middle of an undead apocalypse. Fans of the original hit should recognize both the format of the game and the interface.

For those unfamiliar with the original, its controls are simple. Contract Killer is a first-person shooter. You swipe around the screen to look for zombies and set your sights, and tap the fire button to trigger your firearm. There's also a quick-switch button that allows you to swap between your primary and secondary weapons.

Trend Micro Titanium AntiVirus Plus 2012

The bottom line: Following on last year's big overhaul, Trend Micro makes a series of smaller changes to this year's Titanium security suites. AntiVirus Plus contains the core features, but it's really on a level with free competitors--and that's a hard sell.

Review: Last year was a headliner for Trend Micro's security suites. Overhauled with a lightweight interface and cloud-based detection, and rebranded as Trend Micro Titanium, the changes made the suite competitive again. The 2012 version builds on those improvements, so this year doesn't have a lot of big changes. Still, there are … Read more

Old-school fun and mayhem with Race To Kill

Race to Kill is a free arcade-style Flash game from Rhouma Games. It's an old-school driving game in which players use their arrow keys to steer the car. In the game scenario, you're a skilled driver who is hired to blow up an enemy base while eluding the SWAT team and other obstacles. It's fun and remarkably challenging.

Race to Kill's controls are minimal: Start Game, How to Play, Settings, Credits, and More Games. The Settings involve playback quality and enabling sound and the volume control; there's also a keyboard test. We clicked How to … Read more

Disable the Skype Home window pop-up

"Oh, hey there, Skype Home window. I was going to watch this movie but I see you've decided to randomly open a window over it instead. Thanks!" Sound familiar? If you're a Skype user who's updated to version 5.5, you've probably come across this issue (only happens if you use Compact mode). There isn't a way to disable the pop-up in the application (yet), so follow these steps if you'd like to get rid of it:

Quick, before the boss gets back!

Paper Toss is an extremely simple but still fairly addictive game that simulates the time-honored office pastime of tossing crumpled pieces of paper into a trash can. In the game's interface, you hold your Android mobile device vertically as you flick a wad of paper toward the target can, attempting to account for a blowing fan when you calculate your trajectory. The fan changes sides and speed for each shot, and Paper Toss features three levels of difficulty, with the trash can at varying distances.

Where this game really shines, though, is in its production values: the crisp visuals, … Read more

Zuckerberg takes to killing chickens and pigs

I would like to paint a picture for you on this Memorial Day weekend. It is of Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg chopping off a live chicken's head with a large knife.

No, the chicken is not called MySpace. Nor has anyone ever referred to it as "Privacy."

However, it seems that the Valley's own Scotty McCreery has decided to start killing his own fowl before he eats it. Actually, according to Fortune, he isn't just stopping at fowl. He's into a little pig slaughter too.

You think that I might be offering a little … Read more
