Nook Color turned into in-dash car stereo

When it released the Nook Color last year, we're not sure Barnes & Noble envisioned anybody turning its e-reader into an in-dash car stereo system, but that's just what one creative DIYer, juicedigital, has done.

As you can see from the video demo, this is not your standard issue Nook Color but one that's been hacked, or "rooted," with custom firmware that opens up the tablet to run Android apps. What's interesting to note about the demo is that at one point you see Google Maps up on the screen, which has people theorizing that you could turn the Nook Color into a GPS navigation device if you could pair it via Bluetooth with a cell phone and share its GPS. In-dash Sprint 3G to reach Ford trucks

Finally, a good reason to buy a truck this year: Sprint announced last week that the Internet connectivity of the Ford F-Series and E-Series vehicles equipped with in-dashboard computers will come through the Sprint Nationwide Mobile Broadband Network.

Although the advancement seems to be aimed at contractors who spend most of their workday in their trucks, the in-dash computers support LogMeIn, which enables users to remotely access an online PC, complete with all files and applications.

The Kenwood DDX8019 is yet another contender for your all-in-one in-car device dollar. The in-dash system plays CDs, DVDs (audio and video), MP3 discs, WMA discs, and USB audio sources out of the box. With add-on modules, it can be used to play satellite and HD radio and as a Bluetooth hands-free calling interface.
