Campaign aims to turn Kansas town into real Smallville

Turns out Smallville may be real after all. Superman's fictional home on our planet has some suspicious similarities to the town of Hutchinson, Kan. There's now an active Facebook campaign to rename Hutchinson as Smallville.

The campaign has culled facts from various Superman sources, including graphic novels, comic books, and the "Smallville" TV series, to find ways Hutchinson statistically matches up.

Here are some of the overlaps. Smallville is on the Arkansas River. So is Hutchinson. Smallville has a population of 45,000 people. Hutchinson has 42,080. They are both located in agricultural areas. The nearest big city for each is about three hours away (Metropolis for Smallville and Kansas City for Hutchinson). … Read more

T-RON Cybertech guitar is your sci-fi axe of choice

I have a feeling "Eye of the Tiger" would sound very good on this. But anything from 1982 would too.

That's the year "Tron" came out (as well as sci-fi classics "Blade Runner" and "Star Trek II"), and the T-RON Cybertech from Hutchinson Guitars is a fitting homage axe to the Disney fantasy.

"[Assassin's Creed III writer Corey May] really wants to do India," he said. "I would, too. I'd really love to do the Raj."

Obama threatens to veto Net neutrality repeal

The White House today threatened to veto a proposal to overturn the federal government's controversial Net neutrality regulations.

Opponents of the rules, which the Federal Communications Commission adopted by a 3-2 party line vote last December, have scheduled a Senate vote this week that would lift the regulations before they take effect on November 20.

Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchinson (R-Texas) said today that the administration's enthusiasm for Internet regulation is another example of its anti-business outlook.

The Internet, she said, "has been the cradle of innovation, it does not have a problem, and it does not need … Read more

U.K. carrier 3 unveils Facebook phone

LONDON--Mobile operator 3 has unveiled a phone designed for accessing Web 2.0 services such as Facebook that it hopes will do for data consumption what Apple's iPhone has done for smartphone uptake.

Speaking at a launch event here, Kevin Russell, CEO of 3, said: "The iPhone is a fabulous product--a breakthrough in usability. The Google (Android) phone is an exciting direction. But for us, we want to open this whole marketplace up, in terms of usage of data for mobiles."
