Aromatherapy from the USB port

It's late in the afternoon on a gloomy fall day. What do you need for a pick-me-up? A touch of USB aromatherapy, of course.

The crackpot R&D department at Japan's Thanko--maker of heated USB gloves, muscle-toning mice and other bizarre items--has expanded its semi-useless repertoire to include a USB humidifier. Everything USB notes that a drop or two of scented oil can provide a quick aromatherapy treatment right at your desk.

Perhaps the most bizarre thing of all is that this product actually has some direct competition.

A retro humidifier? Please

This retro business has got to stop. Phones, radios, TVs, even alarm clocks we can understand (sort of). But humidifiers?

Frontgate, whose pretentious and overpriced catalog items often exemplify bourgeois waste (and questionable taste), remains true to itself with its "GermGuardian Digital Humidifier." Red Ferret sums it up cheekily as "just perfect for recreating those Amazonian jungle safari memories," which says it all to us. Where is J. Peterman when we need him?

Penguins are soooo played out

There's another blogger here on Crave who is trying to convince all our readers that I am unhealthily obsessed with penguins. Not true. Yes, I think they're cute. Yes, I think the occasional penguin gadget is kind of cool. But come on, Mike. First, it's not an obsession. And second, the market has become so saturated with the penguin motif that I'm ready to say: I'm over it.
