Arcade Hoops Basketball Free 4.1 Review

The touch screen interface of the iPad and iPhone makes the devices perfect for any game that asks you to flick, slide, or push something around the screen. From bowling and soccer to skee ball, there are dozens of extremely simple apps that are instantly addictive for this very reason, and Arcade Hoops Basketball is definitely one of them.

The premise of Arcade Hoops Basketball is very straightforward. Like an arcade game that gives you a minute to shoot as many baskets as you can, the app provides you with four balls that you can shoot however fast you want. … Read more

Drain baskets as fast as you can

Arcade Hoops Basketball mimics the arcade quickshot basketball machines you might find at a pizza place or a fair, but with this app it's all about swiping your shots to the basket. Once you start the game, your job is to swipe upwards toward the basket and sink as many shots as you can in 45 seconds. The power of your shot is affected by how much you swipe so it takes a little bit of practice before you'll be hitting shots consistently.

Arcade Hoops Basketball comes with three game modes. The classic 45 second contest mentioned above, … Read more

NBA 2K10 vs. NBA Live

With the NBA season in full swing, we thought we'd take a moment to check out this year's offering of digital hoops games, which really boils down to 2K Sports' NBA 2K10 vs. EA Sports' NBA Live 10.

Last year, the contest wasn't even close, with 2K9 trouncing Live in a blowout that made it easy to choose which game to buy. The net-net is you have two solid games that are hard to choose between.

HoopStick is like Woot, but with a moving price tag

Webware's Rafe Needleman and I are big fans of Woot.com. Since the introduction of the one-deal-a-day sales site, there have been several clones. However, none have caught my interest like Hoopstick. The site, which currently operates on weekends only, sells just one item a day. The big catch here is that the price tag is constantly changing, meaning patience or pure, dumb luck can get you a deal.

Today's item is a USB headset. When I started writing this, the price tag was hovering around fifteen bucks. Since then, it's come down to $12, jumped back … Read more

USB basketball, the ultimate in productivity

Finally, a USB gadget that's actually useful. We had pretty much given up on the one-time novel plug-and-play desktop devices until they became so common that practically anything that required electricity was being turned into a USB product. Thanko's recently released aromatherapy treatment was probably a new all-time low.

The "USB Hoops Basketball Game" is a undeniable exception to that trend, the first USB-worthy item in recent memory. Our only quibble is the obvious missed opportunity: The game keeps score on its own digital display, but the USB connection could have been used to create all … Read more
