Epic Lego Helm's Deep crafted from 150,000 bricks

Whatever your fandom may be, some Lego aficionado has probably already built a massive version of it. OK, so we've already seen a 200,000-piece alien city and a 70,000-piece Serenity spaceship. Now feast your hungry building-block eyes on this stunning 150,000-brick Helm's Deep from "Lord of the Rings."

Built by Rich-K and Big J, the model is 90 percent complete. The Lego fans (under the name "Goel Kim") uploaded the creation to MOCpages, an unofficial Lego fan site where builders share their accomplishments. And what an accomplishment this is. The creators managed to capture the regimented mayhem of the battle of Helm's Deep in incredible detail.… Read more

'Lord of the Rings' dwarven beard, helm forged from yarn

With "The Hobbit" going nuts at the box office, it's time to turn our eyes toward "Lord of the Rings" cosplay. The dwarf costumes are perhaps some of the most challenging. Not only are there a ton of dwarves to choose from, but you have both armor and excessive facial hair to deal with.

Racist anti-Obama Facebook post gets woman fired

"I didn't think it would be that big of a deal."

These are words so many of us have used, just before someone slapped us across the chops.

So it has proved for Denise Helms, a 22-year-old woman from Turlock, Calif., who used Facebook to express her own miffedness with the re-election of the president.

As Fox 40 in Sacramento records it, she wrote: "Another 4 years of this n*****. Maybe he will get assassinated this term."

Oddly, this post seems to have incurred something of a reaction itself. Not everyone was at one with … Read more

Light bulb goes off as friend conceives of brain-cooling helmet that could save biker lives.

So there we have it, one ThermaHelm helmet that will cost you a pretty penny at 299 pounds ($490), but that could … Read more

Man with 25 IDs nabbed by face-recognition tech

Edited 1.20pmPST to include quotes from Indiana BMV's Deputy Communications Director

Sometimes he was Eric Nicholson. Sometimes he was Vernon Eugene Lyons.

However, according to authorities in Indiana, his real name was George Helms and he assumed at least 10 different names in that state alone.

According to CBS2 Chicago, Helms walked into the Hobart, Ind., license branch to obtain an 11th ID. No one seems really sure why he would want an 11th license.

What Helms appears not to have known is that Indiana has invested in new facial recognition software.

Helms allegedly had all the correct … Read more
