Web video pioneer returns with checkbook in hand

Tom McInerney, the Web video-sharing pioneer who left the sector 18 months ago, is making a comeback.

This time, however, the co-founder of video site Guba is an investor. He's one of the backers of Shopflick, a company trying to become the Web equivalent of the Home Shopping Network. The site enables apparel merchants to showcase the clothing they offer by uploading video clips. Many sellers use the opportunity to channel their inner Francis Ford Coppola.

Another executive shakeup at Revver

Video-sharing site Revver said Thursday that CEO Steven Starr has stepped down, in the company's second executive shakeup in the past six months.

One of the sector's pioneers in sharing revenue with videographers, Revver said in a statement that Kevin Wells, the company's chief operating officer takes over for Starr, who will now serve as Revver's chairman.

Start-up SideReel is newest Web video directory

Recently launched SideReel wants to be a combination Internet video portal, TV guide and search engine, according to CEO Roman Arzhintar.

One of the largest hurdles confronting online video is how to help viewers find what they want. Plenty of companies are trying to solve the problem by offering either powerful search engines (Blinkx) or by hosting as much quality video on their sites as possible (Veoh Networks and Joost).

SideReel has an index featuring links to TV shows, movies and other popular longer-format video attractions found online. The Web site doesn't host a single clip.
