eBay Motors founder starts new e-commerce site

eBay Motors founder Simon Rothman announced on Monday that he has officially launched a new e-commerce site, Glyde.

According to the press release, Glyde's goal "is to democratize e-commerce." The site was born out of Rothman's desire to make it easier for Web users to buy and sell products online.

But Glyde throws in a twist. The site's marketplace is designed for Web users to sell used goods. They can sell books, CDs, DVDs, and video games.

"The average American household has $3,000 worth of unwanted media collecting dust," Rothman said in … Read more

Whither the iPhone killer?

The iPhone has enjoyed a strong run, leapfrogging RIM to claim second place in the smartphone market with 17.3 market share, as reported in Ars Technica. But will Apple be able to hold or grow its iPhone market position in 2009?

I polled a group of 17-year old neighbors yesterday, asking them what gadgets they crave. Most would love an iPhone but, barring that (due to cost or carrier reasons), one phone that got a lot of praise is the Samsung Glyde. While CNET didn't give it much love, these teens loved the slide-out keyboard. (Giving how often … Read more

A fix for the Glyde's touch screen?

PhoneArena has stumbled across a possible fix for the Samsung Glyde's troublesome touch screen. The site is reporting that if you tape the battery into the phone, it will strengthen the electrical connectivity between the battery and the handset, thus providing (as theory goes) a more responsive screen. PhoneArena tried the fix and said it appeared to work well in a couple of areas. Apparently, it was easier to scroll through lists and make menu selections. Yet, a few issues weren't fixed. The PhoneArena team said problems remained with dialing a phone number, scrolling through a Web page, … Read more

Verizon Wireless debuts the Samsung Glyde

Samsung and Verizon Wireless on Thursday announced the Samsung Glyde (aka the SCH-U940), a touch-screen cell phone based on the Samsung SGH-F700. All signs originally pointed to a May 9 release date, but Samsung and Verizon had an itchy trigger finger. But no matter what the reason, sooner is always better, particularly if it involves putting a high-profile device through its paces with a review.

Offering a touch screen and a slider design that hides a full alphabetic keyboard, the Glyde is a powerful phone with a full set of features. Inside you'll find Bluetooth, a full HTML browser, … Read more

Verizon gears up for phone launches

According to the Verizon Wireless rumor mill, the provider may just gets its hands on a selection of fancy cell phones. The dish that excites us most suggests that the Samsung Glyde will land at the carrier. From what we can tell, the Glyde (aka the SCH-u940) looks like a lot like the Samsung F700, which is a very cool keyboard phone that we've been longing for since we first saw it at CTIA last year. The F700 has yet to arrive at a U.S carrier, but if Verizon pulls through with the Glyde we'll be very … Read more
