When it comes to mobile devices, do people care about 3D content?

It's a topic I've been wrestling with since the emergence of the HTC Evo 3D, the first 3D-capable smartphone. I came to the conclusion that it was largely a gimmick, or something that piques your interest but quickly fades away. For some, it's just a bit of headache-inducing flash.

Sprint to debut new data plans with Evo View 4G

Sprint will add to its tablet options on June 24 with the debut of not only the Evo View 4G, but also new data plans.

According to information first obtained by AndroidPolice, the carrier will begin offering a 10GB data plan for $90/month and unlimited access to WiMAX data for data plans of 3GB and above. These options, later confirmed by Sprint PR spokeswoman Kristin Wallace, won't differ much from their existing rates, rather they will supplement them.

HTC Evo View 4G an Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablet?

Yesterday, a CNET reader spotted a Web spec on this Sprint page that claimed the forthcoming HTC Evo View 4G would run on the Android 3.0 Honeycomb operating system.

Sometime after we posted this story, Sprint's specs changed again, this time citing that the Evo View will carry the "latest version of Android."

Advanced biofuels maker Gevo files to go public

Gevo is out to prove that the sleeper success story in the biofuels business is isobutanol.

The Denver-based company on Thursday filed an S-1 document stating its plans to raise $150 million by going public on the stock market. On Wednesday, algae biofuel company PetroAlgae also filed for an initial public offering.

Gevo was started in 2005 to commercialize technology from California Institute of Technology and raised an initial investment from Khosla Ventures, followed by two subsequent rounds.

Oil giant Total invests in butanol maker Gevo

Oil giant Total has invested in start-up Gevo, which has a process for making butanol--a biofuel that backers say offers advantages over ethanol.

Gevo said Tuesday that Total invested an undisclosed amount as part of a series D round of funding. Existing investors include Khosla Ventures, Virgin Green Fund, Burrill & Co., and Malaysian Life Sciences Capital Fund.

Much of the activity in biofuels in the past five years has been focused on ethanol, which is used mainly as an additive to gasoline. But there are a number of companies pursuing alternative biofuels, such as butanol.
