Google holds on to social media accounts in Frommer's deal

Google might have sold off its Frommer's division, but the company seemingly hasn't given up all of the social media accounts that were tied to the brand.

The folks over at PaidContent yesterday noticed that the former Twitter account, @FrommersTravel, has had its name changed to @ZagatTravel. Zagat is fully owned by Google. Frommer's Facebook, YouTube, Foursquare, Google+, and Pinterest accounts were also deleted with followers likely to be transferred to equivalent Zagat accounts.

Google acquired Frommer's from Wiley & Sons last year for an undisclosed price. Earlier this month, Google announced that it had sold the company to its former leader Arthur Frommer. … Read more

Arthur Frommer reacquires travel book brand from Google

If you were lamenting the loss of Arthur Frommer's travel guides, take heart: the travel expert has acquired the brand from Google and plans to resume publishing the books.

The search giant acquired the Frommer's brand last summer from Wiley & Sons, including its travel guides and hotel ratings, for an undisclosed price. However, last month, authors of the popular travel guides told travel news site Skift that Google had ceased publication of the print version.

Google kills Frommer's print travel guides

Frommer's, the popular travel guidebook series, will no longer be available in print, according to a report today from travel news site Skift.

Google, which bought the series in August, has stopped the publication of the print versions, authors of the books told Skift. The search giant quietly removed the bookstore from the Frommers.com site in September.

The printed books' authors, who were working on 29 titles, said they were told by editors that Google is not publishing the books. The writers said that originally, right after Google bought the series, they were told that there would be … Read more

Patience waning in Apple-Samsung patent fight

The Apple-Samsung patent infringement trial is on fire, with the presiding judge applying much of the heat.

Tension appeared to peak this week when U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh began yelling at Apple for trying to book too many witnesses in its last few hours.

"I am not going to be running around trying to get 75 pages of briefings for people who are not going to be testifying," Koh told Apple's lawyer Bill Lee.

"I mean come on. 75 pages! 75 pages! You want me to do an order on 75 pages, (and) unless … Read more

How tweets reveal where you live

Monday's top-story rundown knows where you live:

Just when you think it's safe to tweet, here comes WeKnowYourHouse.com. The site is a social media experiment designed to show how easy it is for tweets to be used against you. If a Twitter user has location turned on, and they send a message with the word "home" in it, then the site will display it along with a Street View image of the location. Similar to PleaseRobMe.com, it showcases how some users may not be aware of how much information they are sharing.

Google acquires Frommer's, pushes further into travel info

Google is once again investing in the travel space.

The search giant is acquiring travel guide provider Frommer's from John Wiley & Sons. It's not immediately clear what Google might have planned for Frommer's, and a purchase price has not been divulged.

Wiley announced earlier this year that it would put Frommer's, which includes everything from travel guides to hotel ratings, on the purchasing block, though the company did not have any potential suitors in mind.

It's not all that surprising that Google has jumped in to swipe Frommer's. The company has been making … Read more
