Marshall Fridge goes to 11

Just like any other group of people with a common purpose, rock 'n' roll bands need to consider the things that are of utmost importance to them. Things like a fridge full of cold beer.

Before any band can get off the ground, first they must consider their equipment; guitars, amps, and drums are just the start. Designed to look like a classic Marshall amp half stack, the Marshall Fridge won't rattle any windows (one would hope), but it does hold 4.4 cubic feet of beer. A freezer incorporated on the top shelf is perfect for chilling down … Read more

Google buys Fridge to build groups in Google+

AllThingsD

Fridge, a group social-networking site, was acquired by Google last night, co-founder Austin Chang tells AllThingsD.

It's an interesting move for Google+, whose signature feature is its Circles, which are managed by each person rather than as collaborative groups.

New York-based Fridge, which offered a simple and pretty group-communication tool with photo-sharing and event-planning features, had raised some curiosity when it told members last week via e-mail that it was shutting down its product. Users were told to download and save their data by July 19. (That date has now been extended to August 20.)

Let the fridge clean itself out

Ringing in the new year is usually accompanied by more than just a ringing headache. Along with exclamations of "never again" come the requisite resolutions. While some of these will certainly be proclamations of imbibing (at least) one less toast, others will be more pragmatic. Like cleaning out the fridge.

While a self-cleaning fridge is currently as ephemeral and fleeting as most other New Year's resolutions, the possibility is on the horizon. In the United Kingdom, the University of Central Lancashire and online supermarket Ocado are collaborating on a fridge that does just that.

Featuring shelf surfaces that will use "nano-articulated technology," the refrigerator will have the capability to move food products around the interior via an array of micro-tiles.

Designed to be more than just a method for moving soon-to-be-spoiled food up to the front of the fridge, the entire shopping and storage experience is set for an upgrade. The smart fridge is designed to monitor gases from decaying foods, scan contents, and then create shopping lists (or just order) based on these factors.… Read more

KitchenAid's new fridge is more than a pretty face

If you take a look at the new KitchenAid French Door bottom freezer fridge, you might think that the only changes are the chrome details and full color LCD screen on the newly contoured doors. You might, but you'd be wrong.

Open those lovely doors, and you'll find a larger fridge capacity (2 cubic feet more than previous models), shelves that extend an additional three quarters of an inch, and advanced LED lighting so that you can see everything you cram inside. The fridge also features an in-door water and ice system and a convenient tilt-out ice door. … Read more

Fridge Locker screams, 'Hands off!'

How selfish can one truly get? How about the $19.99 Fridge Locker, the ultimate weapon against food thieves? When it comes to bunking with roomies and even siblings who are full-time freeloaders, there's no arsenal great enough to protect your private food stash.

The Fridge Locker is really a tiny cage measuring 7.5 inches by 7.5 inches by 11 inches with a metal combination lock to keep out what the retailer can't help calling "Refrig-A Raiders." Poor pun aside, I wonder if this would kill your popularity rating if you brought one to … Read more

A fridge and much more

Fridges and microwaves are pretty much required for a college dorm room, just as they're necessary in an office environment or anywhere else that you need to eat but don't have space for a full kitchen. The MicroFridge Combination Appliance puts a small refrigerator--complete with a separate freezer space--together with a microwave in one appliance that will fit just about anywhere. The appliance even incorporates a charging station that will allow you to recharge electronic devices. The charging station actually helps the unit to be more energy efficient by making better use of the energy that any fridge … Read more

Keep your Diet Coke cool

If you're a big fan of Diet Coke, Koolatron makes a fridge just for you. The Koolatron Diet Coke Fridge is painted and shaped to resemble a can of diet coke, right down to the tab on top. It is smaller than the average mini-fridge, offering enough room to chill eight 12-ounce cans or two 2-liter bottles, but as cool storage for drinks, it probably doesn't need to be any bigger. The Diet Coke Fridge measures 11 inches by 11 inches by 17 4/5 inches. It will easily fit under a desk or in other tight spots … Read more

MicroCool microwave/fridge combo is space saver

We're fans of many double-duty appliances here at the Appliances and Kitchen Gadgets blog. Haier has another take on that idea--it's a NuCool enhanced fridge and a microwave oven in a stacked combination unit with a power strip. A durable, easy-to-clean spacer anchors the microwave to the fridge.

The configuration is nothing new--college students have stacked microwaves on minifridges forever--but this one is designed for stacking, won't topple, and won't overheat.

NuCool runs quietly and is energy efficient--this is important when you have limited outlets and a lot of cool appliances to run. Speaking of limited … Read more

Cool ways to get cold

I don't know about you, but I think it's awesome when high-tech and low energy use come together. Haier's new HyCool refrigerator combines semiconductors and compressor cooling technology to create a cost-effective, eco-friendly minifridge that's downright cool. And really cold.

Are you sacrificing temperature for going green? Not at all--the fridge cools down to 35 degrees Fahrenheit--which is cold enough to store perishables like milk, cheese, and butter.

Let's say the room where your fridge lives is 70 degrees. In just two hours, the HyCool will get chilled inside all the way down to 35 … Read more

Write on! A fridge with something to say

Shared offices and dorm rooms are places where space is at a premium. Products that do double duty are a given, as are compact versions of important appliances. The Write Fridge from Haier meets both needs.

Its small size fits into tight spaces, and the integrated dry-erase board, included markers, and specially designed marker storage make it a truly useful addition to your room or office. Think about it: you can scribble threats ("Eat my Chinese food and die") or more practical notes ("Buy milk!!!") the moment you think of them, and you have a place … Read more
