Sync Destinations app updated with Ford Sync AppLink compatibility

LAS VEGAS--You'd think that Ford's own Sync Destinations app would be among the select few that offer connectivity with the automaker's voice-controlled Sync AppLink technology, but oddly it wasn't...until now.

Ford has announced an updated version of the Sync Destinations app for iPhone that gives drivers voice control over the app when connected to an AppLink-enabled vehicle. Like the original app, users will be able to save favorite destinations and access driving directions and traffic reports to them utilizing their cloud-based Sync Services account. Ford extends Sync across lineup, lowers price

Beginning with the 2012 Explorer and Edge, Ford will offer its Sync system at the base trim level for all of its models. In addition, the company is dropping the option price to $295.

Currently, Sync is unavailable on the base trim of many Ford models, creating an incentive for customers to move up to a more expensive trim. With the change, Ford will not only offer Sync as an option on the base trim models, it will also make it standard on mid-level trims where it had been an option. This change will end up extending Sync availability to all Ford models.

Sync integrates Bluetooth phones and MP3 players with the car's infotainment system and offers a voice command element that lets drivers place calls by contact name and ask for music by artist, album, and genre name.
