One2Touch NFC keyboard hits shelves in Japan

Hate thumbing e-mails on your phone? Japan's Elecom is launching One2Touch's portable keyboard that connects with your handset via near field communication (NFC). When you don't need it, just fold it up and slip it into your pocket.

Announced earlier this year, the silicone rubber accessory is billed as the word's first full-size keyboard for smartphones that does without cables, pairing, and battery charging; the internal battery lasts about 18 months. … Read more

Elecom clamshell keyboard sports handy iPhone stand

Japanese peripherals maker Elecom has released two handy iPhone keyboards, including a clamshell gizmo that has a stand for your phone.

The TK-FBP029E Series recalls the awesomely named (if you know "Star Wars" well enough) TK-421 case with flip-out keyboard from 2010.

Elecom's latest Bluetooth keyboard is slightly larger than an iPhone and has a full English keyboard. It supports the iPhone 4 and iPod Touch.

The cover also serves as a handy stand for your phone, and it's not always clipped to your handset. … Read more

Clean your TV with an animal plush toy

Don't be knocked off your feet if you find your girlfriend cleaning her TV and monitor with a plush toy. Japanese company Elecom has come up with the funky idea of making a series of "animal cleaners" from its Groomy series to rid displays of dust and stains.

There are a total of 18 different designs, including the soft-leather-clad Celebrity Groomy, metallic-colored Gogeous Groomy, and gentle-texture Baby Groomy. Variations aside, these models feature a high-performance washable stomach to remove the grime picked up while cleaning. Elecom is also throwing in free iPhone, iPad, and Android games to … Read more

Soap on a rope? Nope, it's a mouse

Japanese perhipherals maker Elecom has a new mouse out that's sure to appeal to germaphobes.

The M-SP1UR Soap optical mouse is a basic three-button USB pointing device that's meant to resemble a rounded bar of soap. Heck, it even says "SOAP" on it.

Just don't take it in the shower.

Osaka-based Elecom is releasing it in yellow, white, and black (black is a common soap color in Japan; it's made from bamboo charcoal) in October with a list price of about $23. It comes with 30- or 60-inch USB cables.

Portable speakers could pass for radiators

The design trend dedicated to the lowly radiator seems to have expanded to the desktop. That, at least, could be one explanation for this latest portable speaker system from Elecom.

This industrial-looking pair can be fastened and used as a single space-saving unit or separated into two speakers, according to Fareastgizmos, for either an iPod or a laptop. They pack a total of 2 watts of power and work with both batteries and an AC outlet.

Contributing to their utilitarian appearance are its three "colors": black, gray, and white. If they only had some kind of built-in heating … Read more

Authorize your USB drive

Flash drives have already become the media of choice when one needs to transfer files in a hurry. However, its small size also means the chances of one being lost or stolen is high.

While some USB drives have gone down the password route and others opt for a fingerprint sensor, Elecom's solution is a little more drastic. Its latest flash drives come with the Password Authentication Security System (PASS), which allows only authorized machines to read the contents. We do hope that there is a workaround if the only PC it's paired with goes bonkers.

This mouse is way overqualified

Some companies know how to put their R&D money to good use, actually coming up with some innovative and practical technologies. And then there's Elecom.

The Japanese company seems to have a knack for coming up with products of little practical value, such as mice that can be folded or used by the ambidextrous. Its latest offering proves true to form as well--a mouse that can be programmed for 31 functions.

Why would one possibly need a mouse to do so much? Elecom's wireless "Prumie" (nice name) does have a practical feature of stowing … Read more
