Cooking starts with heat. Everybody knows that; it is the way in which that heat is applied to food where things get complicated. This, of course, is a good thing. The range of modern cuisine is so widely varied, thanks in great part to all the different cooking methods that are readily available at one's fingertips. With a press of a button or a twist of a dial, meals can be created that range from instantly recognizable to outlandishly strange. Sometimes, even with the same appliance.

There is no substitute for a hot meal. Though there are plenty of things worse than cold mashed potatoes, it is a travesty of dinner that can easily be avoided. Certainly the most desirable outcome of mealtime is setting down to a hot plate of food right out of the kitchen. Sadly, this cannot always be. When life gets in the way of dinner, a warming tray can come to the rescue.
Having an extra helping hand in the kitchen can be a valuable resource. Cooking a meal is streamlined from start to finish, and the whole process has increased potential to go off without a hitch. The same could be said for cookware. Having the right equipment for the job is of course always a benefit, but having an extra piece of equipment ready to be pressed into duty is a benefit like no other.
There are times when you may copy files or folders to your system and cannot access them because the system does not allow you permission to them. In the case of folders, you may see a small "no entry" symbol to the lower right of the folder icon. This may happen after migrating or copying files, but it can also happen when accessing shared resources such as network drives, thumb drives, or external hard drives.
The reason these files are not accessible is a simple mixup in the permissions flags for them. Usually when you copy files, the … Read more
When it comes to chicken, ordering extra is rarely a bad idea. Able to be eaten hot or cold, any leftovers can be used in a variety of applications. From salad and sandwiches to soups and snacks, cold chicken has a use in every kitchen. When preparing chicken at home, there is an endless number of ways to get the job done. Sometimes that means digging into the back of the cupboard for a specialty appliance. Then, more than ever, it just makes sense to make two.
As the weather turns warmer, the joyful sound of the ice cream truck driving around the neighborhood becomes more common. And since I have no intention of paying $4 for a Sponge Bob-shaped treat with gumball eyes, I've stocked my freezer with less expensive, if more boring, boxes of chocolate and vanilla goodness.
Whenever my parents serve ice cream, they first microwave the container for about 30 seconds. I prefer my ice cream cold, so I usually just leave it out on the counter for a few minutes to soften enough for easier scooping. But apparently, so many people … Read more
There are more ways than one that heated gravy can be a tricky mealtime endeavor. The essential accompaniment to many meals, gravy is quite often the highlight of the meal. Trouble is, sometimes it can be difficult to keep on the table, and not just because of its wonderful flavor. Sometimes the mad rush of the kitchen keeps all the stovetop burners occupied, making finding a place for warm gravy a difficult task. Other times, the length of the meal exceeds the heat of the gravy and you are left with a cold, unappetizing soup that nobody wants to pour … Read more
Like tortilla chips with a burrito, or soup with a sandwich, french fries served with a burger pair together perfectly. However, just because fries and a burger go so well together doesn't always mean I have one with the other. If I'm just making a burger for myself, chances are I'll pass on the fries all together--it's just not worth it to heat up a large vat of oil for a single meal. Therefore, as perfect as my burger may be, its complement is usually noticeably missing. (Still, sometimes I cheat and run down to the … Read more
I'm afraid the search will never end. The search for delicious pizza, that is. And why would I want it to end? As they say, "getting there is half the fun." But sometimes it isn't easy. While I may lament the selection of real pizzerias in my neck of the woods, that doesn't mean I'm going to stop searching anytime soon. However, as much as I enjoy the hunt, sometimes I am ready to settle for something known to be less than spectacular.
I'm talking about frozen pizza here. As delicious as "… Read more
