Android tablets have largely been a 7- or 10-inch affair to date, but 8 inches could be the new sweet spot, according to NPD DisplaySearch.

Dell special committee slams new Icahn plan as incomplete

The special committee of Dell's board managing the computer maker's effort to go private rejected the latest takeover proposal put forth Tuesday by activist investor Carl Icahn as lacking key details necessary for its approval.

Citi Research is revising its forecast for negative PC growth as it paints a dark picture of the incredible shrinking PC market.

Citi is cutting 2013 PC year-to-year growth to negative 10 percent from negative 4 percent growth, according to a note to investors late Friday.

"The Citi global technology team is revising down its 2013 PC growth estimate to -10% y/y (from -4%) based on further sub-seasonal demand" in the first quarter and slowing notebook production.

Dell tells shareholders to vote for Michael Dell deal

Michael Dell got his wish: his board of directors says shareholders should vote for his proposal that would take the company private.

Dell's Special Committee of the Board of Directors on Wednesday filed an investor presentation with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) that supports the $13.65-per-share offer Michael Dell and Silver Lake Partners made earlier this year for the company.

In a statement on Wednesday, Dell's Committee said that the deal, which will take Dell private if approved by shareholders, is the "best possible outcome for shareholders."

TAIPEI -- We spent a few minutes here at Computex 2013 with the Dell XPS 11, a new convertible notebook with a flip design, not unlike the Lenovo Yoga Ultrabook.

One of the notebook's main features is its 11.6-inch, 2,560x1,440-pixel-resolution display. This gives it an extremely high PPI, much more than the larger XPS 13, which has a 1,920x1,080 screen.

Seagate demos its 5mm Laptop Ultrathin HDD in Android tablet

TAIPEI--At Computex 2013, Seagate announced its latest 5mm hard drive for laptops and tablets, the Laptop Ultrathin HDD. The 2.5-inch drive was first talked about last year, and will now start shipping to Seagate's OEM partners.

The Laptop Ultrathin HDD will come in 320GB and 500GB capacities and is wrapped in a steel, rather than aluminum, case for toughness. Standard laptop hard drives are typically 7mm or 9.5mm in thickness.
