LG is readying a fix that will prevent its smart TVs from collecting data, the company said on Thursday in an e-mail to CNET.
The move comes in response the discovery that LG's televisions were sharing data about the channels you watch and names of media files you stream on your network -- even if you chose to disable the setting.
The revelation set off concern over what LG was or wasn't snooping on with its televisions. The company uses the data collection feature to better serve ads and recommendations on the television -- similar to what happens … Read more

Numbers has been redesigned to match the design scheme of iOS 7 and is useful for creating spreadsheets and organizing data while away from your desktop. It's not going to take the place of more robust spreadsheet apps like Microsoft Excel, but it's great for tinkering with your data on the go. On the iPhone the app works admirably, but the smaller screen size makes it a bit less easy to use than the iPad version.
Like the other new iWork apps that were released in October, Numbers was built from the ground up for both iOS and … Read more

Microsoft is considering data centers that use fuel cells to generate power right next to the servers they house rather than transmitting it from electrical power plants far away. The move could double efficiency compared with traditional data center design, which loses energy through transmission and conversion, Sean James, a Microsoft senior research program manager, said in a blog post Tuesday.
The cleanest fuel cells convert hydrogen and oxygen into heat and electrical current, releasing water as exhaust. Microsoft, though, used more convenient methane-powered fuel cells, which release more … Read more
AT&T reportedly has a contract with the CIA to provide the agency with data on certain phone calls.
