As we inch closer to the expected launch of much-rumored next-generation iPhones from Apple, images of alleged parts for them have materialized.

French blog Nowhereelse.fr, which has posted images of legitimate parts for unreleased iPhones in the past, has published images of what it says are speaker components for two future iPhone models. The images, supposedly snapped by someone employed by the company that manufactured the parts for Apple, are purportedly components for what the blog calls the iPhone 5S and iPhone 6.

Shares of Apple stayed down today following a drop that sent the stock down below $500 for the first time since February.

The stock ended the day at $501.75, down $18.55 or 3.57 percent.

The cause for the initial drop came from a pair of stories yesterday -- one from Japan's Nikkei and another later in the day from The Wall Street Journal -- claiming Apple cut its component orders for the iPhone by nearly half last month. Apple is reportedly dialing down its iPhone component orders, a possible sign that demand for the smartphone is not quite as strong as Apple expected.

The company cut its orders last month for iPhone 5 screens for the first quarter of the 2013 calendar year by roughly half its original target, sources tell The Wall Street Journal. The Cupertino, Calif.-based tech giant also reportedly trimmed orders for other screen sizes as well.

ST-Ericsson, a chip maker that got caught up with the wrong crowd, has announced sweeping changes in an effort to stay relevant in the mobile market.

The company, a joint venture between STMicroelectronics and Ericsson, today announced a new strategic direction that will see the firm focus its efforts on a "complete system solution" for smartphones and tablets. The company will focus on delivering application processors, modems, connectivity solutions, and a host of other components to vendors looking to compete in the mobile space. In what appears to be further evidence that Apple is considering the launch of a TV, the company has reportedly contacted at least one component maker about the capabilities of its displays.

"We recently spoke to a major TV component supplier who has been contacted by Apple regarding various capabilities of their television display components," Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster wrote in a note to investors today. "We see this as continued evidence that Apple is exploring production of a television."

According to a report over at TechCrunch (drawing on Calcalist, a Hebrew publication), Apple is preparing to purchase Israeli flash memory manufacturer Anobit for $400 million to $500 million.

The acquisition would be CEO Tim Cook's first as the guy in charge at Apple, though he has been through the process before. Apple recently purchased P.A. Semi in order to produce the mobile processors (the A4 and A5) that now appear in iPhones and iPads.

In a note to investors, Rodman & Renshaw analyst Ashok Kumar claims that Apple's supply issues regarding the iPhone 4S are due not only to extremely high demand but also a key component not being readily available.

That component? Kumar isn't telling. Or, doesn't know. Either way, there's no telling what the "key component" in the iPhone 4S that is causing supply issues is. According to AppleInsider, Kumar claims the low availability of the iPhone 4S will continue through the holiday quarter, generally Apple's busiest and most lucrative time of the year.
