Hyundai to market Chinese phone watch

One of the few decent-looking Dick Tracy watches we've seen is reportedly a step closer to reality. Hyundai will be marketing the Chinese-made "CECT W100" Bluetooth phone watch that came out this summer, Gizmodo says.

The Hyundai model appears to have a slightly different finish but will still feature its LCD touch screen, 1.3-megapixel camera and 1GB of memory while playing MP3 and video files. But like the earlier version, this steroidal wristwatch apparently will be confined to the Asian market for now.

Olympics mascot gets its own phone

Samsung isn't the only company that's making phones to commemorate the Beijing Olympics, gold or otherwise. China's Cect has come up with a handset targeted at kids, though we suspect that adults will be interested in it too once the souvenir market heats up.

The phone resembles a Nokia model, as noted by Newlaunches, save for one distinctive feature: Above its 1.5-inch LCD screen is a likeness of Fuwa Huanhuan, an official mascot of the 2008 games. A watch phone that actually looks decent

With the exception of the iPod lookalike from SMS Technology, most of the Dick Tracy watches and other wrist-mounted combo devices have left something to be desired in where appearances were concerned. That's clearly not a good thing, given that watches are marketed as fashion accessories or fine jewelry.

The "CECT W100 Wrist Watch" is a notable exception, despite its decidedly uninspired name.
