Bill Nye, LeVar Burton in first White House Vine

What do you get when you combine some celebrities with serious nerd cred and a few incomplete sentences? The first official Vine from the White House, of course!

Bill Nye the Science Guy, LeVar Burton, and uh, this other woman took a quick 6 seconds to welcome us all to the White House Science Fair in a Vine tweeted out from the official White House Twitter feed today.

Students from across the country were invited to the White House to share their creations -- from marshmallow launchers to robots to 3D-printed widgets -- with the president and others. Some projects also got the Vine treatment. … Read more

Samsung, Tim Burton brighten Oscars with rainbow-colored unicorn blood

"This is getting too weird for me."

These are words you never expected to hear coming from the mouth of Tim Burton.

Yet Samsung, which these days leaves no competitive joke unturned and no Hollywood star untapped, delivered precisely that during the Oscars broadcast.

The ad, released by Samsung a little while before the show, features Burton playing a director delighted to be turning the "Unicorn Apocalypse" game into a movie.

In this context, "delighted" takes on a very idiosyncratic form.

We begin by hearing that another Samsung endorser, LeBron James, is addicted to &… Read more

And Crave's most dedicated 'Star Wars' fan is...

If we ever had to battle the evil forces of the Galactic Empire, we'd definitely want you on our side, Crave readers.

A few days ago we put out a call for our most dedicated "Star Wars" fan, and as usual, you did not disappoint. We received submissions from "Star Wars" devotees the world over, showing off everything from impressive homemade costumes to intricate tattoos and life-size replicas of favorite characters.

As a fan myself, I had so much fun seeing all the enthusiasm for the "Star Wars" films (it was also a wake-up call that I need to step up my game), but there was one individual who definitely stood out from the rest. As the saying goes, "The Force is strong with this one."

You'll have to click through the photo gallery below to find out who the victor is, but the lucky winner will receive an autographed copy of "The Star Wars Craft Book" from Bonnie Burton herself. Congrats to the winner, and thanks to everyone who sent in submissions! … Read more

However, we also know there's an entire galaxy of you out there who are just as or even more devoted to the Star Wars franchise and show your appreciation in other ways, and we want to hear from you.

To cap off our DIY Weekend series of intergalactic crafts, we're on the hunt for the most dedicated Star Wars fan. You may not be into art projects, but you might have an epic toy collection or a Star Wars-themed room in your house. Whatever it may be, we want to see it. … Read more

On today's show: sunbathing groundhogs, instant Facebook millionaire David Choe, a CBS pilot show about Groupon, and "Reading Rainbow" host LeVar Burton strikes back.… Read more

The $100K way to get 3D sharks in your house

LAS VEGAS--Does your home feel empty without 3D sharks swimming around to keep you company?

A Japanese company named Burton (not to be confused with the folks who make outdoor gear) has come up with a glasses-free solution it calls the Aerial 3D Display. It creates a "plasma emission phenomenon" it says is similar to lightning, while pointing multi-colored lasers to create dot arrays that move to give the illusion of movement.

A demo of the technology in its smaller form was running here at CES with 3D sharks, apples, and words projected in 3D that could get to about 8 inches in size. The company has also created a larger version that a company spokesman said could create projections just shy of 10 feet. … Read more
