Win the race in Bunny Hill

Touch-screen controls have resulted in some interesting new takes on classic platforming and racing genres in the iOS App Store. Bunny Hill is the newest entry in a long line of supercute mascot-style characters running, sliding, or racing their way across the screen with your help. But does Bunny's adventure live up to those of some of his contemporaries, or is it another supercute concept stretched too thin?

At first glance, Bunny Hill looks like a winner. It has the cute but accessible design of a modern iOS classic and the character is immediately lovable. Shaped like a block … Read more

The best of NY Tech Day, a showcase of startups

NEW YORK -- Today, more than 200 startups, most from the Big Apple, came together for the first NY Tech Day, their chance to show off their wares to a gathering of more than 1,000 press, investors, and members of the public.

While the companies' offerings were diverse and rather uneven, there were some that stood out, and CNET did its best to pull together a list of the best that were on display:

FoundIt FoundIt is a useful service with an analog approach. The idea is to help you recover lost belongings. By signing up, you receive a sheet of stickers, each with an ID number assigned to your FoundIt account. FoundIt then notifies the owner via text message or e-mail that the item has been located.… Read more

Adjust OS X sound volume level per application with Sound Bunny

When multitasking in OS X, sometimes the programs you are using might output notification sounds or otherwise use the OS X audio system in ways that could interfere with your other tasks.

If you increase the volume to watch a movie while you have Mail open in the background, then when you receive a new message, Mail will output a loud New Mail sound. While you can disable Mail's notification sounds or quit the program, you might wish to keep it open and hear when the Mail arrives, but just not as loud.

Other similar scenarios might also benefit … Read more

Angry Bunnies

Bunny Shooter is an Angry Birds-style game that pits you against a pack of malicious bunnies trying to steal your prized carrots. Armed with a bow and a set of arrows, your job is to wipe the smiles off of those smug bunnies' faces.

Swipe your finger across your bow's string to load it up, then rotate the bow to change your arrow's trajectory. Sometimes you can shoot a bunny straight away, but in many cases, you'll have to bank your arrow off of obstacles or cause chain reactions to destroy the bunnies. Similar to Angry Birds, … Read more

2cute is a free, ad-supported app that lets you browse, download, and share images from the 2cute Web site--images that are empirically very cute (or as the app points out, in Japanese, "kawaii") of puppies, kittens, bunnies, and more. You can browse through large thumbnails of the pictures just by swiping left and right, and you can tap to rate, share, or download a normal or high-resolution version of the photo.

Flipping through the photos on 2cute is fun (with an occasional surprise, like a baby octopus or pygmy marmoset), and this app provides a great and easy … Read more

Sleepy Bunny gadget soothes worried puppies

Everyone has heard of the old trick for getting a young puppy to sleep. Set a ticking clock next to it. The problem is that in the Digital Age, very few people have clocks that tick.

That's why your not-so-sleepy puppy needs its own gadget. Sleepy Bunny is a stuffed bunny toy with a mechanical heart inside.

Puppies have a lot in common with human babies. Trouble sleeping through the night is a frequent issue for the little pooches, especially when they are newly separated from their litter mates. The good news is that you don't have to put them through college when they turn 18.

The removable Puppy Pulse battery-powered heart mimics a real heartbeat. It is designed to reduce separation anxiety and keep sweet little Spot from waking you up with plaintive yips at 3 in the morning.

It can also help you avoid getting into the habit of having your pooch in bed with you. It may be cute when he's little, but eventually Tiny could turn into a 170-pound, bed-hogging Great Dane.

Sleepy Bunny is currently available for preorder from Firebox.com for $26. When your teensy pup grows up to be a big, strong dog, it can use the bunny as a chew toy. Just be sure to pull out the heart for safe keeping.… Read more

This Week: Updating the Volkswagen Rabbit

I'm sure many of you observed or enjoyed the Easter holiday weekend with your families, and that those of you with kids may have been paid a visit to your home or local park by the Easter Bunny.
