Corel takes a bite of raw photography with Bibble buy

Corel, a longtime maker of image-editing software, has acquired Bibble Labs and will introduce new software at CES based on Bibble's technology for processing raw photos from higher-end cameras.

Bibble President Jeff Stephens announced the acquisition and new software plan in a blog post Friday. Bibble Labs' latest product, Bibble 5.2.3, will be the last, and Stephens now is leading development of the new photo "workflow" software at Corel, he added.

Long-awaited Bibble 5 raw photo editor arrives

Bibble Labs has released the long-awaited version 5 of its software for editing and managing the raw photos higher-end cameras can take.

Bibble 5 adds a number of new features for editing, cataloging, and performance. The company had hoped to release Bibble 5 in 2008 but ran into delays.

Bibble software gets new SLR support

Bibble Labs on Friday released a new free upgrade to its software for editing raw images from higher-end digital cameras, adding support for the Canon EOS-1D Mark III and several other models.

The new version 4.9.8 of Bibble Pro and Bibble Lite supports ordinary raw files from the high-end Canon SLR (single-lens reflex) camera as well as its new "sraw" format that's half the resolution and one quarter the file size of regular raw images.
