In the latest criminal prosecution to alarm Internet activists, a security researcher who accessed a non-password protected portion of AT&T's Web site was sentenced today to 41 months in prison and three years of supervised release.

Hacker found guilty of massive AT&T-iPad site breach

A hacker has been found guilty of breaking into an AT&T Web site and stealing data of more than 100,000 iPad users.

Andrew Auernheimer, 26, was convicted Tuesday in federal court in New Jersey of one count of conspiracy to gain unauthorized access to computers and one count of identity theft. The jury reached its verdict within hours of beginning deliberations, according to Wired.

After the verdict was announced, Auernheimer tweeted that the outcome had been expected and that an appeal was planned.

AT&T-iPad site hacker to fight on in court (exclusive)

A hacker facing trial on charges that he and a cohort conspired to break into an AT&T Web site for 3G iPad users told CNET today that he will fight the charges "to the end."

Andrew "Escher" Auernheimer, 26, was indicted several months ago on one count of conspiracy to gain unauthorized access to computers and one count of identity theft. A hacker accused of breaking into an AT&T Web site and stealing data of iPad users is negotiating a plea agreement a month after an alleged co-conspirator pleaded guilty, Reuters reported today.

Andrew Auernheimer was indicted three weeks ago by a Newark, N.J., grand jury on one count of conspiracy to gain unauthorized access to computers and one count of identity theft. Auernheimer, who lives in Fayetteville, Ark., is free on bail.

AT&T-iPad hacker pleads guilty to computer charges

A 26-year-old San Francisco man pleaded guilty today to conspiracy and ID theft charges related to his part in accessing iPad customer data on an AT&T Web site a year ago and publicizing it.

Daniel Spitler wrote a script called the "iPad 3G Account Slurper" and used it against AT&T servers in June 2010 to harvest e-mail addresses and associated unique iPad numbers, according to a statement from the U.S. Department of Justice office in Newark, N.J.

The Web site of the hacker group whose members were charged with computer crimes after they exposed a hole in AT&T's site for iPad customers last year was hacked today.

Two charged in AT&T-iPad data breach

Two men were charged with computer crimes today for allegedly hacking into AT&T servers and stealing e-mail addresses and other information of about 120,000 iPad users last summer.

Andrew Auernheimer, 25, was arrested in his home town of Fayetteville, Ark., while appearing in state court on unrelated drug charges, and Daniel Spitler, 26, of San Francisco, surrendered to FBI agents in Newark, N.J., according to the U.S. Attorney's office in New Jersey. AT&T hacker released on bail after drug arrest

A hacker involved in the disclosure of a security flaw in an AT&T iPad-related Web site was released from an Arkansas jail Thursday after posting a $3,160 bond on felony drug possession charges, authorities said.

Andrew Auernheimer, 24, was arrested Tuesday after officials searching his Fayetteville, Ark., home on an FBI search warrant said they found less than a gram of cocaine, one ecstasy pill, 19 tabs of LSD, and some Oxycodone.
