The 404 759: Where we guard you while you sleep (podcast)

Every once in a while, we need a friendly reminder about the importance of getting a good night's rest--after all, the average human spends about a third of his or her life asleep, and a chronic lack of rest can lead to memory loss, depression, higher risk of heart disease and stroke, and more! The Sleep Doctor Michael Breus is back with more tips on how to maintain a healthy sleep cycle and to address the growing concerns about sleep!

We're lucky to have Dr. Breus in the hot seat today to answer your questions about sleep. His schedule is filled with appearances on Martha Stewart Morning Living, a bi-weekly column on Huffington Post, a new Twitter account, and a line of temperature-regulated mattresses at Sleepy's Mattress Store!

On today's hour-long episode, we're spending a little extra time with the good doctor to answer your concerns about the importance of a healthy night's rest. We start with an experiment in Europe with cars that drive themselves, allowing commuters to catch up on sleep en route to work.

We're all still questioning our own abilities to fall asleep and trust that the car will get us to our destination in one piece, but the article brings up an interesting point about the dangers of sleep driving, since over 60 percent of Americans have admitted to driving drowsy. Next time you're feeling tired, pull over and take a nap-a-latte!… Read more

Simple aromatherapy definitions

MB Aromatherapy Dictionary Software provides an impressive collection of terminology related to the study and practice of aromatherapy. With a simple layout and easily interpreted definitions, this program succeeds.

The program's interface took us no time to understand. With the functions of a dictionary cut down to the bone, there is nothing to see here but a list of words and the definition. This was fortunate because the online Help file provided an all too brief description of the program and nothing more. The program had hundreds of terms listed in alphabetical order, which allowed us to scroll down … Read more

Aromatherapy boom is getting a little suspicious

Are people really so desperate for aromatherapy that they want it plugged into their USB port at all times? Even outside California?

That could certainly be surmised from seeing all the products to come out in this booming mini-market. The latest model, from ThinkGeek, is at least mercifully simple: About the size of a portable thumb drive, the USB Aromatherapy Oil Burner is strictly plug and play--or plug and sniff--and comes with a bottle of rose, jasmine, or peppermint oil.

And at 6 bucks, no one really has any right to complain about it either. As for this whole scented … Read more

USB aromatherapy sets stage for massage

Well it's about time. Like everyone else, we've been pining for a combo USB Aroma Radio/Speaker for some time.

Apparently the insane but driven R&D staff at Hong Kong's Brando was determined to one-up the competition, which includes aromatherapy gadgets in the form of USB humidifiers and fragrance oil burners. Brando's version not only tickles the olefactory senses but also pipes in the music from your MP3 player and provides mood lighting in seven LED colors.

For optimum relaxation, be sure to use this on a computer with at least two USB ports. … Read more

Aromatherapy in a pen

In another era, one would have drawn certain suspicion when taking a whiff from paraphernalia carried around in a purse or a pocket. But in 2007, illicit substances have been replaced by the endorphins of aromatherapy. At the same time, as evidenced by such combo devices as the cigarette lighter flash drive, it's not enough for a gadget to have just one function.

So the time was obviously ripe for something like the "Aromatherapy Pen," which has two points--one for ballpoint writing and another to dispense "pure Swiss essential oils," according to Gizmodiva. If this … Read more

Aromatherapy from the USB port

It's late in the afternoon on a gloomy fall day. What do you need for a pick-me-up? A touch of USB aromatherapy, of course.

The crackpot R&D department at Japan's Thanko--maker of heated USB gloves, muscle-toning mice and other bizarre items--has expanded its semi-useless repertoire to include a USB humidifier. Everything USB notes that a drop or two of scented oil can provide a quick aromatherapy treatment right at your desk.

Perhaps the most bizarre thing of all is that this product actually has some direct competition.
