Apple CEO apologizes to China over warranties, offers fixes

Following weeks of scrutiny over its warranty policies in China, Apple now says it has improved services in the region.

That message came from the top, in an apology note from Apple CEO Tim Cook, posted in Chinese on Apple's Chinese site today.

In it, Cook apologized for a lack of communication on the matter, and said that the company is implementing improvements in three areas of its warranty policy and related services.

Those changes:

A new repair policy for the iPhone 4 and 4S that provides a new phone exchange or new parts replacement for a year after … Read more

Apple quietly pulls apology-hiding code from U.K. site

Less than a week after Apple was rumbled by Reddit users for including code to hide a court-ordered apology to Samsung on its U.K. Web site, the code has now been removed.

The code forced visitors to scroll down the page in order to see an apology that Apple was ordered to display on its U.K. Web site for one month, by resizing the central image of the new iPad mini and "sticking" four separate product advertisements at the bottom of the browser window.

This meant that no matter how tall their browser window is or … Read more

U.K. court to Apple: Nix those 'untrue' anti-Samsung claims

Apple has been ordered by the U.K. Court of Appeal in London to remove an "untrue" and "incorrect" statement about Samsung from its U.K. Web site, in which the iPad maker continued to insist that Samsung did indeed copy Apple's products.

The statement, which can be found on Apple's U.K. Web site at the bottom of the page, riled U.K. appeal judges sufficiently to force Apple to remove the statement within 24 hours, reports Bloomberg.

This new ruling comes less than a month after a lower court ordered … Read more

Apple CEO: We are 'extremely sorry' for Maps flap

Apple CEO Tim Cook took the most drastic step yet to address the growing furor over the company's beleaguered map application, saying he was "extremely sorry" for the frustration felt by customers and vowing to improve the program.

"With the launch of our new Maps last week, we fell short on this commitment," Cook said in a statement, which was first reported on by TechCrunch.

An apology from Apple is a rare thing, but the company has said sorry from time to time, including the "Antennagate" troubles two years ago with the iPhone … Read more

Path's Dave Morin: No, really, I don't lie about this stuff

Gawker published this evening an apparently damning story to further the day's drama over Path sucking down contact lists from its iPhone users.

The story says that Morin has misled us in the past about Path's use of personal data and that it is safe to assume that Morin is playing fast and loose with customer data again. The evidence is an e-mail Dave Morin wrote to Ryan Tate at Gawker in 2010, saying:

One of our core principles here is that you must have contact information for someone in order to find them on Path. Usually, you … Read more

FedEx apologizes for monitor-tossing courier

Have your online-shopped gifts already arrived? Or did you order at Best Buy, where they appear to have experienced a few problems?

I ask merely because I believe your local FedEx courier will be extra careful over the next 24 hours.

For the company has issued a video apology for the behavior of its most famous employee.

Should you have been buried beneath a pile of Christmas ornaments recently, you might not have heard that one particular FedEx courier tossed a Samsung monitor over a fence instead of, say, delivering to the recipient's front door.

FedEx's apology, entitled &… Read more

Netflix CEO's apology video: An apology of a video

commentary I got an e-mail from Netflix CEO Reed Hastings this morning. He's always seemed like a nice man.

But the e-mail seemed quite long and I'd heard there was a video. So, I went to look the man in the eyes to both see and hear what he had to say.

I must admit that it affected my enjoyment of one lone slice of double-fiber toast, a banana, and a grande nonfat latte.

Here was someone who seemed to be apologizing, but in a way that didn't seem very apologetic. Yes, he was sorry that he … Read more
