Dated database program

Collectibles Organizer Deluxe is a database program that allows users to keep track of the contents of collections of any sort. Although the program works fine, there are likely more sophisticated options to accomplish this task.

The program's interface looks very dated; it's reminiscent of Windows 95. Not surprisingly, it's not particularly intuitive, and in general its layout feels somewhat cluttered and clunky. To its credit, the program does open with a brief explanation of its features, allowing users to get started without too much trouble. Collectibles Organizer Deluxe offers five different database templates for users to … Read more

Voltron-transforming camera takes real pictures

"Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" won't hit theaters globally until June 24, so for now you just have to contend with the Voltron Star Shooter camera if you're into shape-shifting robots.

Flickr user John Kratz collects old and weird cameras, but this SLR-like snapper stands out among his other antique shooters. Just like Transformers, the Star Shooter is more than meets the eye because the point-and-shoot uses the old 110-format cartridge film and the big, protruding lens is just a decorative element with no practical use.

You probably won't be able to see this camera … Read more

How deep is your field?

In photography, the idea of depth of field, or the portion of a photograph that is in focus, isn't an easy one to grasp. Like almost everything else in the photographic world, it is possible to figure out what the depth of field of a given (or even hypothetical) photograph based on the size of the film or imaging sensor, focal length, aperture, and the distance to your subject. Given the number of factors involved though, the math gets a little complicated. Thankfully, the folks at ExpoImaging have created the ExpoAperture2 Depth of Field Guide to figure it all … Read more

Dell on display in Smithsonian

To be clear, that's a Dell computer, not Michael Dell now on display in the halls of the Smithsonian.

Dell, who earlier this year was reinstalled as CEO of the company he founded, donated his employee badge, a new Dell PC, and an original computer from PC Limited (Dell's original brand) made in 1985 to the National Air and Space Museum. The collection of items opened Thursday in Washington, D.C., as part of a temporary exhibit called "Treasures of American History."

An Altair computer, first-generation IBM PC and original Apple Macintosh are already in the … Read more

It's not an antique (but looks like one)

With its silver filigree accents, the design of the new Vije Deluxe is vaguely reminiscent of the old Mutoscopes found in penny arcade museums. But instead of sepia-toned Westerns, this little number from will be featuring your very own image--with autofocus, even.

SavitMicro claims that its latest offering, a 2-megapixel Webcam, will ensure that your mug always stays sharp (whether you want it to or not, depending on how rough a night you've had). Akihabara News even included a video clip to show its focus mechanism in action. It looks pretty good, so we'll have to get over … Read more
