Iomega ships 2 new business StorCenter NAS servers

Iomega today announced the availability of the StorCenter px2-300d and the StorCenter ix4-300d NAS servers for business environments, ranging from small offices to enterprises.

The former is a dual-bay NAS that offers up to 6TB of storage space and the latter is a four-bay with a top capacity of 12TB. Both servers are available in a diskless configuration, leaving users the option of picking the type of hard drive and the capacity on their own. Iomega upgrades StorCenter ix2 NAS server

If you like the StorCenter ix2 NAS server, Iomega has some news for you.

The company announced Thursday the next generation of the server, the Iomega StorCenter ix2-200. This is a dual-bay NAS server that can be set up in RAID 1 configuration for data protection.

Like the previous version, the new server doesn't offer a quick way to replace the hard drive. You will have to use quite a bit of screwdriving work to get this done, which means no hot-swapping, either. Some other two-bay NAS servers, such as the QNAP TS-239 Pro, offer a tool-free way to do this. The new Iomega NAS server also lacks an eSATA port for external storage.

To make up for this, it has Bluetooth support, which has been the unique feature of Iomega NAS servers, and comes with three USB ports that can be used with both USB external hard drives and printers. The server is powered by EMC's Linux-based proprietary firmware, which offers a generous set of network storage features, including:… Read more

iOmega NAS server gets Bluetooth-friendly

iOmega announced on Wednesday its StorCenter ix2 NAS server. The new storage device is designed for both homes and businesses and is the company's first to support Bluetooth clients.

Unfortunately, the Bluetooth notion only means the NAS server supports certain types of USB Bluetooth dongles that'll cost you another $25 or so. After that, you can send pictures, files, and address book contacts directly from cell phones to the StorCenter ix2 for backup and sharing purposes.

Other than that, the StorCenter ix2 is a two-bay network storage device with its hard drives not intended to be easily replaceable. … Read more
