Puma Phone review: Sporty and solar-powered

When a phone can grab attention at the hand-set frenzy that it is Mobile World Congress, you know it must be pretty special. And last year, at least, that's what's happened with the Puma Phone. Fashion phones feature Porsche, Hello Kitty

Collaboration with fashion labels or iconic figures seems to be the rage these days. On the show floor of the Mobile World Congress here in Barcelona, we spotted some Sagem Wireless phones co-designed with Porsche.

The P9522 is a simple tri-band phone with a design inspired by the sports car label. Though not a PDA-phone, it does have a generous 2.8-inch AMOLED 400x240-pixel display (the Omnia HD also has the same screen technology), and a biometric fingerprint sensor for security. Verizon, Mozilla to join LiMo Foundation

The LiMo Foundation is adding several well-known entities to its roster of mobile phone players, including Verizon and Mozilla.

A total of eight companies have agreed to join forces with LiMo to work on a Linux-based operating system for mobile phones, bringing the total number of participants to 40. Verizon and Mozilla are the headliners, but the full roster of new invitees includes Infineon, Kvaleberg, Red Bend Software, Sagem Mobiles, SFR, and SK Telecom.

A French designer phone for kids

If fashion designers are willing to stake their reputations on cable boxes, audio servers, and hard drives, then it should be a no-brainer to do a phone for kids. And thankfully, France-based Sagem didn't fall back on the usual cheap toy look that curses so many children's gadgets.

Instead, it commissioned artist Lulu Castagnette to design the My411C handset, which looks pretty much like a grown-up mobile phone except for an external display that's cut out in a teddy bear silhouette.
