Microsoft goes outside for Kin's Mac sync

As promised, Microsoft is offering software that will allow Kin owners to share photos and music between a Mac and the new, youth-oriented phone.

One new wrinkle, though, is that Microsoft went with a third-party firm to develop that software. Mark/Space, which is known for its software for syncing mobile devices and the desktop, created Kin Media Sync for Microsoft.

The free software download lets users transfer music, photos, videos, and podcasts from a Mac to the Kin, though it won't work with copy-protected songs or videos purchased from iTunes.

iPhone syncing app adds voice mail and memo transfers

The latest update for Mark/Space's The Missing Sync for iPhone, a popular phone-syncing utility, has fixed the app's compatibility with iPhone OS 3.0. Released this week, version 2.0.2 also adds syncing support for transferring voice mail and voice memos between the iPhone and a Mac.

iPhone OS 3.0 hamstrings popular iPhone syncing app

Registered users of Mark/Space's The Missing Sync for iPhone, a popular phone-syncing utility, received the following e-mail today regarding incompatibility issues with iPhone OS 3.0.

According to the e-mail, the software currently does not support the syncing of any new notes, text messages, or call history, because none of these can be imported into SMS Log, Call Log, or Mark/Space Notebook.

Mark/Space recently announced the availability of The Missing Sync for iPhone 2.0, the latest version of its data-synchronization software for the iPhone and iPod Touch. It retails for $40, but it's a free upgrade for registered users of the first release.
