Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City, and San Antonio will have access to Sprint's 4G LTE network on July 15, the company announced today.

This signals the beginning of what Sprint hopes will be an aggressive expansion of its 3G and 4G network. 4G LTE boasts faster data speeds for downloads and streaming, while an improved 3G network should mean better signal strength, fewer dropped calls, and faster data speeds as well.

Smart TV software company Flingo announced today it has received a $1 million dose of Series A funding from billionaire entrepreneur Mark Cuban and venture capitalist Gary Lauder. This money will go toward helping the company expand its presence with smart TV and device manufacturers around the world.

That financial injection brings Flingo's Series A funding total to $8 million, and comes just weeks after August Capital led a $7 million round of financing.

On Thursday, during the team's Thanksgiving Day game against the Miami Dolphins, cheerleader Melissa Kellerman was accidentally tackled at the end of a play by Cowboys tight end Jason Witten. Flor, the green carpet manufacturer, announced Thursday that it's opened a fifth brick-and-mortar store, this one in Dallas.

Like its other retail stores in Atlanta, Chicago, New York, and Santa Monica, the Dallas Flor store will offer a recycling drop-off for customers to return worn Flor items.

Flor sells carpets that are made from either wool or mostly renewable and recycled content, with an end goal of eventually making all its carpets entirely from sustainable materials.

I had heard, perhaps erroneously, that Texas has budget problems that tend to rival those of California.

So I was stunned to be informed by KDAF-TV that city hall workers in Dallas appear to have vast amounts of idle time--for 50 of them have reportedly been censured for spending far too much of their working days on Facebook.

Perhaps it's unfair to say that Facebook represents idle time. Perhaps some of these highly valuable employees were using Facebook to improve their social skills, something very important in a city hall environment.

ARLINGTON, Texas--NFL teams including the Dallas Cowboys could soon be abandoning their traditional paper playbooks and game-day printouts of plays in favor of iPads or other tablets.

Pete Walsh, head of technology for the Cowboys, said his team and at least a "couple" of others are currently considering abandoning their playbooks in favor of iPads, a move they feel could save them as much as 5,000 pages of paper printouts per game.

MetroPCS Communications opened its second 4G LTE market today, this one in the Dallas-Forth Worth area.

The new service follows the carrier's initial 4G LTE (Long Term Evolution) launch in Las Vegas last week. As in Vegas, the Dallas-Forth Worth service will offer prepaid monthly plans starting at $55, which include unlimited talk, text, and data, and require no contract.
