Spotter 4.0 Review

New technology called "augmented reality" allows a device to superimpose objects or labels over a real-world environment when viewed through the device. Spotter does this in a very useful way. With this app you are able to pick a point of interest and then see the label float over the actual location. This is particularly useful when walking through a big city and trying to find a small restaurant or an ATM.

As a surprisingly small application, Spotter loads instantly and requires no advanced settings or registration. It receives your location using the device's GPS, so it … Read more

Direct flight traffic with the careful swipe of your finger using Air Traffic Controller

There are certain games that were meant for a touch screen; games in which buttons would be superfluous. Air Traffic Controller 4.0 XL Lite for iOS is one such game. While there will certainly be comparisons to other (one in particular) games in this niche, Air Traffic Controller manages to find its own way with a number of unique features, engaging gameplay elements, and challenges. The interface is simple enough, the menu bare-bones, and the Lite version has a number of ads, but the game itself is solid and while you won't have access to all 50 levels, … Read more

The next time you're looking for your misplaced Android smartphone, check the freezer. It's possible, however unlikely, that someone is trying to hack into your data using a new FROST attack method.

Researchers at Friedrich-Alexander University in Germany have learned that it is possible to access personal information on Android 4.0 smartphones using a chilling technique.

Called FROST, or forensic recovery of scrambled telephones, it amounts to placing the phone in temperatures of -15 Celsius for roughly 1 hour. After removing from a freezer, you must repeatedly power on and off the phone and hold down the … Read more

Android's Gingerbread operating system has sticking power, but it's finally starting to loosen its hold.

New numbers from Google show that nearly half of all Android devices are running versions of 4.0 and above -- surpassing Gingerbread's individual installed base.
