OneNote Mobile 14.0.4908.3000 Review

For many, OneNote is the unsung hero of the Microsoft Office suite. If you need to grab your notes from it on your smartphone or tablet, you can try OneNote Mobile. It's not as useful as other unofficial Office apps, but it has a layout that you're used to. If you're tied deeply into that ecosystem, it's probably the app you should use.

In order to access this app, you have to log in with a Windows Live account. Once you do, the app only controls stuff saved to your Live account's SkyDrive. It won'… Read more

Fanny Wang paints headphones with a rainbow brush

LAS VEGAS--Proving again that it can't make a move before Monster does it first, Fanny Wang has announced that its Duo 1000, 2000, and 3000 headphone lines all boast a rainbow of color options to suit your palette.

And now that its litigation with Monster Cable is over, there's no stopping Fanny Wang from moving ahead with its offerings.

Regardless, Fanny Wang understands that its customers appreciate the ability to add a splash of color to their headphones, so the Duo 1000 series gets upgraded with black, white, orange, green, and blue options; the 2000 over-ear models will … Read more

D-Link flagship DIR-857 router gets USB 3.0, cloud service

LAS VEGAS--D-Link's latest top-tier router almost includes a kitchen sink.

The company showed off today at CES 2012 the Amplifi HD Media Router 3000 (model DIR-857). This is the first home router on the market you'll soon be able to purchase that comes equipped with USB 3.0. On top of that, the router's included USB port now supports D-Link's SharePort cloud technology. The router is part of D-Link's cloud services strategy, which also includes the hybrid router model DHP-1565, a sub-$50 Cloud Router (DIR-605L), and a new Cloud Camera.

SharePort has always been a unique feature of D-Link USB-equipped routers that enables the router to support any USB device as though it were connected to a network computer directly. Over time this technology has evolved from allowing only one computer to access the connected USB device at a time, to multiple access, and now, the ability to share data via the Internet.… Read more

Polk ships UltraFit sports headphone line

In case you missed it, Polk Audio, which made a name for itself in the speaker world, announced a new line of UltraFit sports headphones back in June. Now all four new models have started shipping to retailers and should be available by the end of this month, if not sooner.

The line includes a mix of in-ear, on-ear, and in-ear-canal models that come in a variety of colors and range in price from $49.95 to $99.95. The three in-ear models look fairly similar but simply get swankier (and presumably sound better) as you step up in price.

Polk is touting the 'phones sturdy design, good sound quality, and touches like "tangle-free contrast-colored cables for instant left/right recognition" and an iPhone-friendly integrated three-button remote control and microphone (should work with Android models, too). No models, however, offer wireless Bluetooth connectivity.

Here's the basic rundown on all the new models courtesy of Polk:… Read more

T-Mobile snaps up a Samsung Bluetooth headset trio

Look for three new Samsung Bluetooth headsets to arrive on T-Mobile and Samsung's virtual and retail shelves: the HM3700 ($59.99), HS3000 ($69.99), and HM1700 ($39.99).

The HM3700 is a dual headset with mono and stereo modes. Similar to the Samsung Modus series, it combines noise cancellation (dual mic and echo) with the ability to stream stereo audio. It accepts voice prompts and voice commands, and is further compatible with the Samsung FreeSync companion app for Android phones, which features text-to-speech messaging and readouts and caller ID services. The black, higher-end HM3700 comes with a set of … Read more

Microsoft keyboard throws curve at ergonomic design

The latest addition to Microsoft's family of ergonomic input devices, the Comfort Curve 3000, shows that Microsoft still sees value in iterating in this product niche. While Logitech's ergo keyboard ambitions have seemingly been satisfied by its 2-year-old Wireless Keyboard K350, the Comfort Curve 3000 offers a fairly substantial departure from the Comfort Curve 5000 and 2000 designs.

The new model is curved along a more severe arc than Microsoft's previous keyboard. Its uniformly sized keys should help minimize the initial awkwardness we felt with the older Comfort Curve designs. It also incorporates a slightly elevated portion in the middle of the keyboard, which can help minimize joint pressure. We can't confirm whether those features will offer tangible physiological benefits to everyone who uses the new keyboard, but you can also find out with relatively little risk when the Comfort Curve 3000 goes on sale in August for $19.99.… Read more

Linksys E3200 router review: A formidable contender

A short while ago, I gave the Editors' Choice Award to the Asus RT-N56U. At the time I thought, "It's gonna be some time before there's another router that comes close." I was wrong.

Cisco's new Linksys E3200 High Performance Dual-Band N Router, which we just reviewed, makes a great contender as another excellent, true dual-band router that won't break your bank. As a matter of fact, if it were just a little cheaper and offered better built-in network storage performance, it would get an Editors' Choice Award as well.

Released at the same … Read more

Cisco refreshes wireless-N Linksys E series routers

If you have read the review of the Linksys E4200 router and decided to move on, thinking "It's just so sweet but it's too expensive, plus I don't want all the bells and whistles anyway," perhaps you don't need to walk away. As it turns out, the E4200 is just a teaser of an entire new generation in the Linksys E series that Cisco announced today.

Apart from the E4200, the new generation includes four new routers: E1200, E1500, E2500, and E3200. Except for the E1500, which is a new tier of its own, … Read more

Hands on with Dell's Inspiron R and Vostro laptops, with new Intel CPUs

Dell has announced the new Vostro 3350 small-business laptop, along with a new Inspiron R laptop with changeable lids. They both feature Intel's new Sandy Bridge Core i-series CPUs, which are finally making their way into laptops in stores. We paid both laptops a visit for a brief look.

The Vostro has always been an intriguing line to us: borrowing the look of the Adamo and some affordable pricing, the industrial-looking compact laptops could be an appealing pick for those gravitating to a laptop like a ThinkPad or an HP ProBook. Intel's new Core i-series CPUs could make … Read more

LAS VEGAS--If you have a large house or apartment, it's tricky to get the Wi-Fi signal to every corner. Even when you have the most powerful wireless router, the range never seems to be far enough.
