Photo Talks 1.4 Review

Adding text bubbles to a photograph usually involves an overly complicated editing program such as Adobe Photoshop, or at the very least Paint. Thankfully, there are now a few applications that serve this specific function. Photo Talks is one of the better offerings on the market. It gives the user tons of options and allows them to customize pictures effectively.

Users will have no difficulties installing Photo Talks. It downloads quickly and is fairly light on the device's resources. The main screen opens very quickly and the program seems very stable. The user interface is well designed, featuring brightly … Read more

Dragon City Mobile 1.4 Review

The growth of city building and management apps on the iPad is due in large part to the touch and play interface that the device allows. A few simple taps on any object or tile on screen and you can manage your city. Combined with notifications and a powerful processor with online connectivity (meaning social sharing), games like Dragon City Mobile are ripe for explosive popularity.

Dragon City Mobile is one of the finer made city management games on the App Store. While not wholly different from many of its contemporaries, it is fun to play and incredibly deep in … Read more

Review: Mac Malware Remover for Mac keeps your system safe

As viruses become more common on Mac systems, the number of tools for detecting and removing them has also increased. Mac Malware Remover for Mac is a simple program that effectively scans for a few known Mac viruses, but lacks the features of a full security program.

The program download completed as quickly as expected, as did the installation. Mac Malware Remover for Mac did require the administrator password for root access. The application did not have any instructions but was so rudimentary that they were not necessary. Technical support for updates was present. The program's main menu is … Read more

Review: VirusBarrier blocks viruses from harming your devices

While most people have some form of virus protection on their home computer, few think to do the same for their iPad or iPhone, devices that are just as powerful and just as open to infections from malware as a desktop PC or Mac. Even though the number of viruses targeting those devices is small, viruses can easily pass from an iOS device to a desktop when plugged in. With all this in mind, Intego's VirusBarrier is designed to scan and block viruses on your device.

VirusBarrier has been around for a couple of years and in that time … Read more

Review: TimeMachineScheduler for Mac modifies backup presets

Users who have the native Mac backup system in use may want to adjust the preset options. TimeMachineScheduler for Mac does add some functions to the backup system that work well, but few of them are critical to most Mac users.

TimeMachineScheduler for Mac downloaded quickly and its installer did not require user interaction. A readme file clearly explained the installation process, which was a nice feature. The presence of a native uninstaller was also useful. The lack of tutorials was not much of a problem since the application is little more than an additional section of the preferences menu. … Read more

Review: Use your mouse and keyboard on multiple computers with Synergy for Mac

Open-source and usable across platforms, this utility application lets you share a single mouse and keyboard across more than one computer at a time. Even though Synergy for Mac is an easy-to-use utility concept, it could use some additional improvements with its setup process and execution.

Upon downloading and installing Synergy for Mac, the user will find that the mouse and keyboard sharing concept is based on the user's knowledge and ability to either set up a server for all the computers that will be sharing or to access a client base already established. Synergy could have done a … Read more

Review: Block all your browser pop-ups with GlimmerBlocker for Mac

Pop-up advertising impacts most users' Web browsing experience. GlimmerBlocker for Mac blocks most advertisements adequately, all while stopping the need for reinstallation after browser updates.

Download of GlimmerBlocker for Mac completed quickly and the program installed as a separate application modified from the main computer preferences menu. Unlike other third-party ad blocking applications, this program is outside of the Web browser, itself, which prevents it from being deleted or modified when the browser updates. The application has no menu of its own during operations and works in the background to prevent animated ads from playing. Support for product updates is … Read more

Apple's iOS 6.1.4 tweaks iPhone 5 speakerphone

Apple released an iOS update on Thursday, though it's a tiny change.

iOS 6.1.4, which appears to be available only for the iPhone 5, updates the "audio profile for speakerphone."

The software weighs in at 11.5MB and is available by way of the over-the-air iOS software update tool, and in iTunes.

Apple's last iOS update was 6.1.3, back in March. That update fixed a lock screen security bug and improved some Apple Maps features for users in Japan.

Time-Lapse Lite for Android 1.4 Review

With the use of time-lapse photography one can capture weather, traffic, or other slow-moving action and create amazing videos. Time-Lapse Lite for Android allows the user to capture entertaining videos but does not deliver the high-quality images generally seen on today's mobile devices.

At less than 1MB Time-Lapse Lite for Android is a very small application. It installs instantly and the user is able to take videos without the hassle of an advanced setup or registration. The user interface is well designed and easy to read. Intuitive controls are highlighted in white while the background remains in a dark … Read more

Loopy Fruit Tap 1.4 Review

Loopy Fruit Tap is a unique game if nothing else. It takes a simple concept -- the "follow the leader" gameplay of a Simon Says tap-the-color app -- and turns it into a sort of rhythm game, complete with fun characters and decent music. There are some issues, including a poor tutorial and lack of clarity in some patterns, but the core gameplay is well designed and the resulting game is fun to play.

The upfront execution is easy in that there is only a single menu. The "How to Play" button provides only a basic … Read more
