Tidy your hard drive without much hassle using Cleano

When you surf the Web, you leave plenty of clutter behind. The longer it lingers, the more crowded things get. If you need help getting rid of these files, Cleano is a good resource. It wipes temporary files, your Recycle Bin, and other places where you leave traces of your browsing. It's a neat program for Internet Explorer users, but it would be really wonderful if it worked with more browsers.

The only unique thing about the program's design is its cute donkey mascot. Other than that, the program is a very bland gray box. That makes it … Read more

Use Textgram to design your own graffiti

PC-level Web messenger system combined with social media connectivity -- this may sound like one of the most convenient apps ever made, and, in fact, it is. Textgram may not have the lightning-fast accessibility or wide function scope that other messenger apps have, but it definitely has its own positive points that make it worthwhile to use.

Textgram features a very straightforward interface; those who have previously used a Web messenger software on their PC will find this app easy to use. The blank white screen is there of course, but below it are all other formatting options such the … Read more

Record voice audio and more with Moo0 VoiceRecorder

Moo0 VoiceRecorder is a supersimple sound-recording app for Windows. With a few clicks, you can start recording your voice and other sounds via microphone. But VoiceRecorder also records system audio, including Web audio, Skype, Internet radio, and line-level audio via external inputs. It supports just two formats, but they're the most common types, WAV and MP3, and it offers Cut Silence and Over-Write options. You'll need a microphone to record voice audio, obviously.

VoiceRecorder's semitransparent interface can be customized from the Setting menu, which is where this simple program hides all the bells and whistles, such as … Read more

View Firefox passwords with PasswordFox

NirSoft's PasswordFox is a free tool that extracts and displays the passwords stored in your Mozilla Firefox profile or any other user's profile. It displays each password's Record Index, Web Site, User Name, User Name Field, and other data. It also creates HTML-based reports that you can save or print. PasswordFox works in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows.

PasswordFox is portable freeware that runs without needing to be installed. When you first open the program, it automatically detects your main Firefox user profile and displays the data under headings that can be customized by clicking … Read more

Super Speed Internet & Browser Assistant

Super Speed Internet & Browser Assistant by Slamet Yanuar is free software that promises to improve browsing speed, help parents block sites, and block malicious activity. Unfortunately, its redundant features, poorly designed interface, and overly technical terms take away from its usefulness.

The application presents a compact interface crammed with 12 tabs that include General Statistics, Distributed Proxy, and Cache. On the General Statistics tab, it shows information such as Cache Hit Ratio and Connection to the Tool. It also shows Money Saved and Cost, although it isn't clear how this is determined. Each line of information is in … Read more

Access and manage Favorites and Bookmarks with FavoritesView

NirSoft's FavoritesView is a neat bit of freeware that lets you save, edit, and access your Internet Explorer Favorites and Mozilla Firefox Bookmarks from one compact, customizable interface. You can choose your target folders and open Web pages directly from its toolbar. It can find duplicates and create HTML reports. Unfortunately, it doesn't (yet) accommodate Chrome, Opera, Safari, or any of the other other browsers.

As with many NirSoft tools, FavoritesView is portable freeware that opened as soon as we clicked the extracted program file. The program's interface is basic, with an up-to-date rendering of the classic … Read more

Mozilla in the headlines

The majority of Windows news over the past week rests largely on Mozilla's shoulders. Namely, Mozilla released Firefox 4 beta 10. With plenty of competitors breathing down its neck--Microsoft's IE9 in particular--the pressure has been on the publisher to fix the final bugs that lie in the way of a Firefox 4 release. The latest build focuses mostly on stability and performance rather than on new features--although one new option is the ability to start Firefox in safe mode by holding down shift when launching on Windows.

Mozilla also made strides in the Firefox add-on department. While Google'… Read more

Terminate programs in a snap

Although it duplicates existing Windows' functionality, this effective tool shuts down processes with ease.

AutoSysBot Process Terminator has a sparse, but functional, interface that greatly resembles Windows Task Manager. The program functions much like the default Windows program as well. If users are having issues with a program that won't shut down properly, they can select the appropriate processes to shut down with just a couple quick clicks. A built-in pop-up menu prompts users to double check the process they are requesting to terminate, which may prevent unwanted system crashes. Interestingly enough, the program offers no way to close … Read more
