Review: Funny Photo Effects brings cardboard photo cutouts to your device

Funny Photo Effects offers to put your face on all sorts of goofy characters. Sadly, it seems way more interested in hitting your phone or tablet with ads than helping you laugh.

Funny Photo Effects is supposed to find your face in the photo you submit and paste it on the cutout you want. However, the facial recognition sometimes takes forever to complete. More often than not, it will tell you your photo won't work and won't even bother to try to find a face. What's worse than the app's shaky performance is the infiltration of … Read more

Review: Heads Vs Tails takes the coin-flipping game to new heights

Heads vs. Tails manages to take the least skill-based competition on the planet and create a compelling and engaging game out of it--albeit one that will not entertain for too long.

When you first open Heads vs. Tails, the options are limited. The higher-level "game" components remain locked until you've flipped the coin at least 20 times. However, that takes all of a minute to do and in the process you'll see why such a basic concept is so compelling. While no computer program can ever be truly random, Heads vs. Tails manages to imitate randomness … Read more

Review: View backup information on your iPhone or iPod using iBackup Viewer for Mac

Users with a Mac computer and several mobile Apple devices may want a way to track them from their Mac. iBackup Viewer for Mac is a simple application used to monitor information on an iPhone or iPod.

iBackup Viewer for Mac is available as a free application, but does have a button that solicits donations to the developer. Fortunately, there were no unexpected problems associated with download and installation. The program did not have any instruction or tutorials, but its menu was easy to interpret without them. At startup, the computer does not require any additional configuration and simply loads … Read more

Pokemon X and Y 0.1 Review

Parents of Pokemon fans may need to find out about upcoming games. Pokemon X and Y is nothing more than an application to play a trailer, so those seeking Pokemon information should simply use the Internet rather than download this program.

Pokemon X and Y installs quickly and without any problems. The nature of the application is confusing and at startup, the user is greeted with a dated looking Web page screen with links to three Pokemon-related trailers and sites. This looked like an advertising screen rather than the app, itself, but after trial and error it became clear this … Read more

Insta Collage Bokeh 1.01 Review

Collages are an easy way to share dozens of photos at once. If you want to share all the photos on your smartphone, Insta Collage Bokeh gets the job done. It's loaded with ads and you don't have a ton of control over how your collage looks, though.

Not only does Insta Collage Bokeh allow you to create collages, it can filter and add borders to photos, too. However, the filters available aren't anything new or interesting. The "Bokeh" effects aren't nearly groundbreaking enough to carry this app, either. In most cases, they'll … Read more

Edit your music files with Free MP3 Cutter

No matter what the reason, there are times when listening to an entire song is just too much. Free MP3 Cutter helps you slice off any unnecessary parts of an MP3 track you don't want. The program has no extras but does what it is supposed to do well.

This program's outdated layout isn't going to win it any awards. That does, however, mean it's easy to find the exact feature you're looking for. It's hard to say if that's a testament to how simple the layout is or how lacking the program … Read more

SlimBrowser Portable takes fast browsing on the road

It's no secret that we're fans of "other" browsers, but the browsers often seem like well-kept secrets themselves, especially when you get into the ranks of those Web browsers that stand way behind the "Big 3" (or 5, depending on how you feel about Opera and Safari) in market share. That's a shame, because many of these alternative browsers are worth gossiping about.

To compete with the big players, let alone other would-be contenders, many of these up-and-comers offer unique and interesting features and capabilities you won't find in the famous browsers … Read more

Carry a realistic pocket watch on your iPhone

If you're nostalgic for the old days when phones were dialed and you told time with a watch, this single-function app may one of the least expensive ways to hold onto the past. Anthony Campisi, who created the Key Wind Pocket Watch, does not promise the moon. He has created a simple, easy-to-use pocket watch that opens quickly on your iPhone and features a realistic ticking sound. That is all -- if you expect more, you will be disappointed.

The free app installs easily, requires no registration, and features no ad. It has only two features. One, it tells … Read more

The CST-01: The world's thinnest watch makes its debut

LAS VEGAS--The fight to build the thinnest watch has finally been won, folks. At least for now. Central Standard Timing has partnered with E Ink to create the CST-01; purportedly the world's thinnest watch.

At 0.80mm the watch is thinner than a credit card. I briefly got a chance to hold the extremely light watch and it is indeed the thinnest I've ever seen.

According to Central Standard Timing, the patent-pending CST-01 is assembled by laminating thin, flexible components into a 0.5mm pocket etched into a single piece of flexible stainless steel. This is different from … Read more
