LG VX8360 details revealed

The LG VX8350 was one of our favorite Verizon phones in 2007, and it looks like LG is getting ready to release its successor, the LG VX8360, according to this leaked spec sheet. It doesn't look like it's hugely improved from the VX8350, however, so we probably wouldn't run out to replace it.

That said, it sounds like a decent mid-range handset:1.3-megapixel camera, VZ Navigator, EV-DO, stereo Bluetooth, and of course access to Verizon's broadband services like VCast Music. It'll retail for around $50 with a two-year service agreement, which makes this an … Read more

Netflix streaming comes to LG HDTVs

Monday, LG announced the first TVs with built-in Netflix streaming, due to arrive in the U.S. this spring. The models will go by the generic name "Broadband HDTVs," but we have a feeling they'll be known as "Netflix TVs" soon enough. The plasmas and LCDs are equipped with Ethernet jacks that allow them to stream movies and TV shows from Netflix, including HD content when available.

Netflix currently offers online streaming of thousands of movies and TV shows, dubbed "Watch Instantly," to its customers who pay $8.99 per month and up. But you need to connect an external device, like the Roku Netflix player, an Xbox 360, a TiVo DVR, a specially equipped Blu-ray player like the Samsung BD-P2550 or LG BD300, or even a PC, to enjoy it on your TV.

The LG TVs eliminate the need for an external device. They will cost around $300 more than similar LG models that lack the streaming capability--a pretty steep premium considering that you can get a Roku for $99 or an Xbox 360 for $199, but a premium typical of any technology "first."

"It's hugely symbolic," said Netflix's chief executive, Reed Hastings. "The holy grail has always been to give the TV an Internet jack in addition to the cable jack. It's an early glimpse of the long-term future."… Read more

LG Blu-ray box to offer CinemaNow, YouTube videos

LG Electronics will add video streaming features from CinemaNow and YouTube to its 2009 lineup of networked Blu-ray players, the company said Tuesday.

The company will be showing off the new functionality at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) next week in Las Vegas. (Click here for CNET's complete coverage of CES 2009.)

LG launched its first network-connected Blu-ray player in July with partner Netflix. As part of the deal, viewers get access to more than 12,000 movies and TV shows from Netflix.

With Tuesday's announcement, LG Blu-ray customers will also get access to 14,000 movies and … Read more

LG Vu officially in burgundy

A couple weeks ago, we mentioned the LG Vu might be available in a purple "wine" color. Well now we know that the color is actually a "burgundy" and that it's officially out from AT&T.

It's one of the first phones to offer AT&T Mobile TV, a 3-inch-wide touch-screen display, a 2-megapixel camera, and of course access to AT&T services like AT&T Mobile Music. Although curiously, the LG Vu still isn't available for sale online, but perhaps it will soon.

LG Vu now in a purple 'wine' color

Remember the LG Vu? Yeah, that's one of the first phones to offer AT&T's live Mobile TV service. We haven't heard a lot about it since its debut oh-so-many months ago, but apparently AT&T is set to reintroduce it to the public with a brand new purple hue that looks like a wine color.

If you'll recall, the LG Vu has a really nice 3-inch-wide touch-screen display, with HSDPA, and a 2.0-megapixel camera. It'll likely still be available for around $100, but we oddly can't find it for sale … Read more

HD streaming added to Netflix-compatible Samsung Blu-ray decks

As expected, Samsung has added support for HD streaming of Netflix video to its BD-P2500 and BD-P2550 players. The upgrade is available as a free firmware update (players should automatically prompt users to install the software update, or DIYers can download it from Samsung's support site and burn it to disc). Still no word on the promised DTS-HD Master Audio support for these players, but that will likely come in a subsequent firmware update soon.

The Netflix HD catalog is currently just a fraction of Netflix's streaming selection (300 titles out of around 12,000), but it will … Read more

LG's first U.S. smartphone Incites praise

Last week, we told you about LG's first foray into the U.S. smartphone market with the LG Incite. Today, we have the review. We're not crazy about its curious name (though it does make for corny blog entry titles), but we do have to say it's a pretty decent Windows Mobile smartphone, especially if you're into touch-screen handsets.

The LG Incite is as reflective as the LG Shine, but with a large 3-inch touch screen instead.

The gorgeous QVGA display seems to blend in with the rest of the phone's surface, and when the … Read more

LG Prada II Web site comes alive, we find matching Bluetooth watch

Not that the LG Prada II will make it stateside any time soon, but LG has recently launched a celebratory microsite for the Prada II, officially welcoming it into the world (Flash haters beware; the site is very Flash heavy).

As you might recall, the device has some pretty impressive features--dual-band HSDPA, quad-band GSM, Wi-Fi, a full HTML browser, stereo Bluetooth, FM radio, TV-out, a document viewer, 60MB of internal memory plus a microSD card slot, a 5-megapixel camera, and a luscious-looking 3-inch capacitive multitouch display with active Flash UI (we're almost certain the iPhone has a patent on … Read more
