Apple has begun shipping Time Capsule, its latest external hard drive that is pretty much the only game in town if you want to do wireless Time Machine backups from your notebook.

Time Capsule was first introduced at Macworld. It's an 802.11n Wi-Fi base station with either a 500GB or 1TB hard drive that allows you to back up files to the drive or share files across a network without having to connect a cable. It will set you back either $299 or $499, depending on the storage size chosen.

About.com Chief Executive Scott Meyer is leaving the company after almost three years at the site and almost eight years at parent company The New York Times Co., the company confirmed on Wednesday.

Meyer's last day will be March 6, after which he will take some time off, he told according PaidContent.org.

A spokeswoman for The New York Times confirmed the report and said the company would be looking for a new About.com chief executive from within and outside the company.

The meeting time negotiation service TimeBridge is adding a new Web-based component today. It now lets you set up a page, which TimeBridge hosts, that displays your free times. People who want a piece of your schedule can request an available time from those that are open. It's a good improvement to TimeBridge for service providers like consultants.

Apple today released 11 security updates for Mac OS X, with many of the updates specific to the newly-released Leopard operating system. The Security Update 2008-001 is the first from Apple for 2008. The applications affected include Time Machine, Mail, and Parental Controls. The update can be downloaded and installed via Software Update preferences, or from Apple Downloads.
