Microsoft is expanding the reach of its Xbox Music streaming service with the launch of apps for the iOS and Android mobile platforms and free streaming on the Web.

Gaming may be the central function on Microsoft's Xbox One, but in the company's first major Xbox One TV ad, it's all about the pigskin.
The company on Thursday published to YouTube (and television networks) its first Xbox One TV spot. Rather than focus on gaming, however, the ad centers on the upcoming console's ability to integrate with the National Football League's live games. Microsoft also promoted the console's fantasy football integration and the ability to get highlights from different games.
The ad was timed to go live with the opening of the 2013-2014 … Read more
For those eager to get their grubby mitts on Sony or Microsoft's newest, next-gen consoles the very second they're available, Best Buy is opening a little earlier than usual.
The retailer on Wednesday announced plans to run a midnight release event for Microsoft's Xbox One console, which earlier today got a November 22 release date. That sale joins another, announced late last month, for Sony's PlayStation 4, which goes on sale November 15.
It's not unusual for Best Buy to run a midnight sale for big game releases, though major, next-generation console runs happen less … Read more
Those not eager to drop $499 for the Xbox One when it hits shelves November 22 can take solace in Microsoft's dedication to the Xbox 360 platform.
Xbox Chief Marketing and Strategy Officer Yusuf Mehdi told attendees at the Citi Global Technology Conference on Tuesday that his company plans to release more than 100 games for the current-generation console and that it will receive support for another three years.
Sony's PlayStation 4 will support as many as four controllers at the same time, less than the number supported by the PS3 and Microsoft's upcoming Xbox One.
The four-controller limit was confirmed on Wednesday in a tweet by Shuhei Yoshida, president of Worldwide Studios for Sony Computer Entertainment. In contrast, the PS3 supports up to seven controllers, while Microsoft's Xbox One will support up to eight, allowing for more people to join in on a single game. The current Xbox 360 can manage up to four controllers.
Hardware support isn't the only factor here. Games also … Read more
Microsoft's Xbox One will be a tad bit faster when it ships on November 22.
Yusuf Mehdi, Microsoft corporate vice president of marketing and strategy, said at the Citi Global Technology Conference on Tuesday that the company has upped the clock speed in the Xbox One's processor from 1.6GHz to 1.75GHz. The move came just weeks after Microsoft announced that it has also upped the Xbox One's GPU clock speed from 800MHz to 853MHz.
Mehdi didn't say exactly how the clock speed bump will improve the Xbox One's performance, but he claims that … Read more

Last week, I was invited to a loft to look at how ESPN and the NFL would be integrating into the Xbox One. I was excited: I'm an NFL fan, and I track a fair amount of sports news, too.
I'm also someone who owns a smartphone and has cable TV, and owns a tablet. Between these services and gadgets, I'm pretty well covered.
Microsoft wants you to perceive the Xbox One as a way to get your TV and entertainment in a bold new way. While we knew this was coming since the Xbox event back … Read more
