LulzSec releases Arizona law enforcement data

The hacker group LulzSec released what it said are sensitive documents from the Arizona Department of Public Safety today to protest the agency's "racial-profiling anti-immigrant" policies.

"We are releasing hundreds of private intelligence bulletins, training manuals, personal e-mail correspondence, names, phone numbers, addresses and passwords belonging to Arizona law enforcement," the group said in a statement on its site. "We are targeting AZDPS specifically because we are against SB1070 and the racial-profiling anti-immigrant police state that is Arizona."

London police charge alleged LulzSec hacker

London's Metropolitan Police announced today that it has charged Ryan Cleary with five counts of violating British law in regard to cyberattacks.

Cleary, 19, of Essex was arrested yesterday in connection with a series of distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks allegedly carried out by the Internet hacking ring LulzSec.

The charges include allegations that he launched DDoS attacks against the Serious Organized Crime Agency, the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry, and the British Phonographic Industry. (Click here for a full list of the charges.)

LulzSec takes down Brazil government sites

Hacker group LulzSec said it has taken two Brazilian government Web sites offline. The sites Brasil.gov.br and Presidencia.gov.br were both unavailable as of the time this story was written, ZDNet UK can confirm.

"TANGO DOWN brasil.gov.br & presidencia.gov.br LulzSecBrazil", LulzSecBrazil tweeted in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The outage, which probably stemmed from a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack, follows the arrest yesterday by the Metropolitan Police's Central e-Crime Unit of a 19-year-old man who they suspect is involved with the group.

For several months, hackers have been having a heyday taking down Web sites and leaking data from compromised servers with victims ranging from the CIA and U.S. Senate to Sony, Citigroup and the Turkish government. (A growing list of attacks is here).

LulzSec IDs 'snitches' in accused hacker's arrest

Hacker group LulzSec has posted the names of two people it accuses of assisting in helping track down a teen suspected of being the notorious group's mastermind.

The post, signed by "LulzSec Security" and addressed to "FBI & other law enforcement clowns," includes the two men's home addresses as well as aliases, IM screen names, IP addresses, and in one case their phone number and date of birth.

U.K. press puts name to LulzSec suspect

The identity of the man arrested in the U.K. last night in an antihacking sting has reportedly been revealed.

According to the BBC, citing locals in Essex and the man's mother, 19-year-old Ryan Cleary was arrested by police last night. The Guardian also has given Ryan Cleary as the name of the person arrested. So far, however, the U.K.'s Metropolitan Police and the FBI, which was also involved in the operation, have not divulged any name.

LulzSec suspect arrested in U.K., reports say

A 19-year-old U.K. man has been arrested on suspicion of hacking and online attacks, the U.K.'s Metropolitan Police announced this morning.

Last night's arrest was part of "a pre-planned intelligence-led operation" that also involved cooperation with the FBI, according to the Metropolitan Police. Following the arrest, the man was brought to a London police station where he is currently in custody for questioning.
